Hello

So after 8 years, im finally buying a new computer - but I'm wondering on the best way to continue using light room once i'm set up on the new computer. Once its installed, would i copy over the catalogue folder from the old computer into the same place on the new computer? or is it going to confuse/lose it all. Im familar with telling LR where files are when i've moved the original raw files over to an external harddrive etc - but not what to do with the catalogue folder. or do i not do that at all......

Any clues or helpful 'how to guides'?

He catalog folder and files can be moved and don't have to stay in the same folder. If LR doesn't initially find your catalog file it will ask you to open one. Then you just browse to the new location and open the catalog. LR will remember it from then.

The images themselves will need to remain in the same location or you will need to re sync them with LR
 
I have my catalogue in the root folder of my images. When I moved across to a new laptop I just copied the entire contents of the folder with my images and catalogue in. I then installed LR and imported the catalogue. The path to the image folder did not change, so I did not have to browse for the images.
