as per title im thinking of moving from paintshop pro x2 to photoshop maybe cs3 , is it worth the move and would i notice a difference??

I think X2 is a later version than CS3 (not sure) and without doing a proper comparrison I honestly couldn't tell you which has the most features, and I don't have PSP.
From an output point neither should really be better, just different layouts and tools.
I have used PSP and found it harder to use, but it was after learning PS so I was already used to one system, had I started on PSP I suspect it would have been different.
Can I ask why you want to change?

They both do pretty much the same. X2 doens;t have as much layers options as PS, for example whereas you may apply a sharpen layer in PS and use masks to selctively sharpen, that's notr possible in X2, but you can use the sharpen brush to achieve the same end result, it's just not on a new layer.

I think PS is a more one stop shop, from Raw to output and everything in between. X2 doesn;t support my Rawfiles, so I do most if my work in Silkypix, then if there's something that absolutely has to be done in PSP, it's done afterwards.

I like PSP very much, I think XI was a slightly better version though. Haven't tried X3.

Psp does have layer masks and 20 blend modes (3 less than photoshop) the only thing it doesn't do is ajustment layer masks (from memory) and you can cheat that by simply merging the ajustment layer with a duplicate layer which you can mask.
You add a duplicate layer, sharpen that, then add a mask (hide all) paint in the selective sharpening, same as you would in photoshop.

guess it may have to be a case of just comparing them both then , ive used psp for years tbh
