I'm obviously having a senior moment but looking to move folders from my main drive to my back up drive in LR Classic. I have created the main folder named 2024 Pics which is shown in LR but greyed out because there currently aren't any images in it. However when I attempt to drag and drop the folders containing the photos from my HD they just boomerang back.

Am I missing something obvious please. I'm using Mac Sequoia 15.4.1 and LR Classic 14.3.1

I have always followed the advice that moving files/folders should always be done through Lightroom and not Finder/Explorer.

Synchronise folder?

Make a backup of your files

In OS
Don’t move the Lightroom folder
Copy the image file folders to the new location
Rename the original folder(s)

In Lightroom
Right click on greyed out folder and select ‘find missing folders’
Navigate to new location and select the new folder(s)

When you're happy that Lightroom is finding everything in the new location

Delete the old folders.

Thanks for that I'm using the same methodology but when it comes to step 3 the folder with the photos doesn't create the moving files dialogue box but simply flies back to its original location

I didn’t have that problem.

Have you tried the Google solutions External drive ?

So are you suggesting I move the folders manually on my Mac then use synchronize folder ?
Not as a way to fo things, but it can help in relocating errant files. File and folder movements should really be carried out within and by Lightroom.
