Mountain Bike Advice

Hi all,

I have seen a few mountain bike users on here and would like some advice. I have been looking into getting a new mountain bike to try and get fit again, mainly using for work and back but will also be using it for rides with the kids through the woods etc. I have look at a few and narrowed it down to these 2:

The Boardman looks like the specs are better and I have read some good reviews on it, has anyone on here tried either of these bikes?? I have more or less made my mind up on the Boardman, just want to see what advice is out there.

Hi I've not ridden either bike, but have only heard good things about the Boardman range as a whole.

Some others to consider ...... Specialized Rockhopper Pro, Orange P7, Genesis Altitude 10, On One Inbred (what I ride)

In this case I think its a tad too small as this only goes to 38" inside leg but if you want my opinion the GT range beat most of the mid to high range bikes at the moment due to the Kinesis frames they are using (very light and very strong) so I would have a good think about the Aggressor as its a very good bike.

EDIT... Just looked at the Agressor and its not a Kinesis frame so scrub my comment, but still a good bike:thumbs:

Thanks, I did look at the Zaskar elite which is also £999. Might goo back tomorrow and give them a try.

Obviously you may have decided to buy new but singletrackworld.com classified are well worth a look.

I was actually pointed there by someone here & snapped up a real bargain. Bikes on there are often heavily upgraded & I paid less for mine than the cost of the upgrades!

have you thought about Merlin Cycles ?

Custom mountain bikes. A mate of mine has 2 of these, one is 10 years old now and still going strong, the second he bought last year. Truly stunning and the lightest Mountain bikes I've come across. I ride Marins and thought they were light until I picked up his!

Thanks for the reply, I am going to have a look at a GT Zaskar Carbon 2009 today to see what I think, so will keep these in mind if this falls through

I was just about to say don`t go with a 2010 bike.....you can get much better spec at a lower cost by going for last years model or even a 2008 bike.

But thats what you did....enjoy the bike :D
 
Yer got the 2009 model and can't see any difference between it and the 2010 model?? any idea's

There is only one difference ......Paint scheme the Elite has grey decals for 2009 but the 2010 has a red stripe the bike and components are exactly the same ........with a £300 price tag for it too
 
I didn't get the elite in the end, I went for http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b1s2p2230&z=2588 which is an £800 saving on the 2010 model. Just had a side by side look at them and it is, like you said, only the paint job thats slightly different.

so on the carbon one you pay an extra £800 (I have checked this and its true) my Elite is now £1300 if you want me to paint a red flash on it:lol::lol:
 
Crazy but true, I could have a custom paint job done and still have change:lol::lol:

Very nice looking bike & great spec, congrats!

I'd be interested to know how you get on with Candy C pedals. I have Mallets, by the same company, but had to modify the cleats after struggling with them for a while.
 
what and get it dirty:nuts: going over the woods at the weekend with the kids to have a go.

I had some Smarty's which are almost identical to candy's and they didn't last long at all, but my brother uses Candy's and has had no problems with them, although he does clean his bike occasionally unlike me.
 
I changed the pedals to DMR V8's, easier all round for comunting and play.

Now that's a nice bike!

I usually don't like red bikes, but the black, silver and white really help this one. Very nice!
 
Thanks, the picture on the web page looked orange to me so was'nt sure if I would like it, but when I saw it, it was more red.
 
I've just spent the last month fully restoring a Marin bobcat Trail and building up a Marin Sausalito hybrid so I'll have to get some photo's uploaded sometime soon.

Then there is my baby..... a Ribble Dedacciai Road bike :D

I really need some good weather to get out on them and get them photographed.
