Hi folks

Can’t find who I used last time so anyone got recommendations for mount & backing board suppliers?

Wessex, Lion, local art / framing supplier? Just get your google finger out from where you've had it ...

If you're not overly bothered about the best quality then The Range does mount boards (at least ours does).

They aren't the greatest and probably not archival quality but I've used them before and had perfectly good results.

I normally use Cotswold Mounts but they come in packs of - I think - 5 or 10.

If you’ve got a Hobbycraft nearby they do them, as well as mountboard but you’ll need the right tools and a bit of practice to do a proper job - I do it so infrequently mine are rarely very good!

I'm a very low user, but for mounts I get a dozen or so (A1 conservation grade) boards at a time to make sense of carriage costs (& to have on-demand stock). A clean white is good for mono prints, and a slightly off-white for colour. For cutting I have a basic 1m straight guide (mounted on what was once a drawing board, so it's not waving about freehand) & mount cutters that fit the groove in the guide & can do 90° or 45° (I'd be useless doing 45° mount apertures with a Stanley knife!). Set-up cost is low - & once spent, you're up & running.

Sorry for thread digression, but it's not wholly off-topic ...

I have used Paper Spectrum and been satisfied with their service and goods.
Last time I bought mountboard it came from Tindalls, also decent enough.

In the past I used Picture Lizard and they restructured the company and trade as icanframe

The quality was IMO excellent and very accurate. I think I used them for about 6 orders of multiple custom cut mounts.

But I haven't needed any for a few years as I switched to getting photo canvases.

When I read the original post, I interpreted it from the title as a hunt for mount board rather than mounts - along with backing board. Many responders have for some reason instanced mounts.

So far Duncan has vanished since posting, with no responses ...

Fair enough, I was just after recommendations as although a professional Googler, I like recommendations of quality. And if I don’t talk to people, I’ll start talking to the potted plants. Again.

So I did! Apologies. Time seems to have become a bit of a wibbly wobbly thing since Feb when I ended up in a rather fine NHS AirBnB where they shoved some scaffolding in an artery. I tried to do a bit too much in April I think so have been a little slower since. But slow & steady is working nicely.

It was dual colour mount board I was after, I have a mat cutter and needed some more for forthcoming competitions and, more importantly, to frame up some of my wife’s paintings for a local art exhibition/sale.

I thought I’d better do it right so got some backing boards too and was delighted with how they turned out. And she sold a couple so that was a result. :)

I used Paper Spectrum incidentally and was pleased with their prices & prompt delivery so will try & remember them for next time!

Hello Dunc, welcome back! And may you have a long life after your op. ;-)

I note that P Spectrum don't seem to list the maker of their boards, and nor do they deign to mention any archival (or otherwise!) characteristics. So be it ...
