Just sold off my Canon 400D and now looking for a replacement camera. As I'm into motorsport and have Canon glass (not L - yet !), I'm seriously considering the Canon 7D. By all accounts it seems to have a good AF system and decent results at highish ISO also. The only thing that's put a doubt in my mind is that I've read somewhere there are AF problems and 'banding' - whatever that is. Am I worrying about something that are isolated cases and is the 7D the right choice to do the job well ? The 400D gave me reasonable results but really want to see an improvement on the upgrade, so a good choice or not ?

99% of AF problems with the 7D is more than likely users not understanding how the various AF modes work. It is an excellent camera.

ALOT of motorsport guys seem to stick with 40/50D's. I have a 40D, really want to upgrade to a 50D.

Glass is what you need for motorsport, wish I had a 100-400L ideal motorsport lens length wise as long as your not miles from the action. 70-300 is fine if there is a budget.
