Hi folks,
What helmet cams are you using, looking for recommendations. I wear a neotec2 and would like to add a camera, ideally some thing unobtrusive. GoPro and the like are a bit bulky, in my opinion.

Also wanting good image quality.

Thanks in advance.

Ask yourself why competition motorcyclists aren't allowed helmet mounted cameras?

The concern is that any mount that is strong enough to stay on at high speed, it will have a strong enough bond to affect how a helmet behaves in a crash. Be that point loading if you hit the ground/car/ road furniture. Or just as much of a concern is if you just go sliding down the road the camera mount may "snag" and end up breaking your neck.

But if you want one, go ahead (although you may not end up with a whole head)

In case you haven't guessed, I am very anti helmet cams be they on motorcycles or pedal cycle.

why?

I have a helmet cam and a mount on my motorbike and pushbike helmet, last year i witnessed a HGV hit a cyclist by passing way to close while overtaking.
i supplied the evidence to him and the police and the HGV was prosecuted and the cyclist won substantial damages,
cameras are brilliant tools when the sh*t hits the fan.

to add mine is below, countour roam 3

Thanks for the input, really undecided. Having the intercom fitted in helmet rules the sena unit out, the contour roam size is what I’d been thinking of. I’ve seen the Drift Ghost series but they have mixed reviews, some more reading up to do.

Munch, I also get where you are coming from so the other option I’d have is a bike fitted cam.

Thanks again,

I recently fitted a INNOVV K2 2020 Edition system to my bike, it's not a cheap option but you do get front and rear cameras with GPS and it's fully automated.

I wouldn't use a helmet camera mainly for the reasons highlighted by Munch above.

I'd go the bike mounted cam route myself. Mainly because my lid is a flip front and would knock the camera off every time I flipped the chin piece back! There's also the possibility of a helmet mounted cam seeing your speedo when the needle's past the legal limit... On the rare occasions I've filmed a ride, it's been with a cheap gopro clone fixed to either the headlight or the right hand engine bar and I've used time-lapse (with a 1 fps frame rate) to shorten the ride. Never watched the videos since!

I thought I had explained why helmet mounted cameras can be dangerous in an accident. If you had a bike mounted camera the chances are, you would have still caught have the accident you use to justify your helmet camera.

I never said cameras where a bad thing, just I don't like them on helmets.

Helmet camera mounts are designed to break away in the event of a crash....

nope your wrong a good camera mount simply breaks off in an accident bad mounts off ebay are the problem.
as for bike vs helmet wrong again as the camera is only then pointing in one direction. many times on my bike/motorbike i have looked and the camera looks with me and people see the camera pointing at them and adjust their behaviour especially on the push bike.

A mount may well be designed to break in accident, (be it top of the range or an ebay knock off) doesn't mean the forces required to do it doesn't cause any issues. In a direct impact a mount can still penetrate a helmet. As I said in the beginning, if there was no issue competition racers would have helmet mounted cameras, (there is certainly the commercial pressure for them)

Have went with the bike mounted option, ordered a Motowolf M6, hopefully be here shortly then I can get it fitted.

Thanks to all for the input,

ive got a couple of drift ghost x cameras, one on the helmet and another i can mount either facing backwards off the bike or low down near the ground for a bit more of an atmospheric shot, they have good and bad points, the good bit is compared to go pros they are small and neat not too conspicuous, the battery life is excellent especially with the bigger 1500 pack on the side( i also use power banks so i can run it all day when im out on longer trips, but this requires a special lead off drift o#if you want to have the mic plugged in too, picture quality is ok and its easy enough to use...bad points is its reliability, the usb port is a weak point, so needs careful mounting higher up on the helmet or any left and right head movements will eventually wiggle the wire and in turn the port, the sound isnt good unless you use an external mic and at speeds it needs careful positioning inside the helmet or you still get a lot of wind noise even with foam pads and a dead cat fitted, one of my cameras is a pain in the arse, every time i plug it in to the computer to drag videos off it freezes when i unplug it and it needs a manual reset to restore it(dont lose the little pin that comes with the camera), contacting drift customer service is not the best, all done by email and sometimes its a day or 2 for them to reply between emails, saying that ive had 2 cameras replaced by them without too much of a quibble...eventually, it also dosnt have a remote control but the xl version does as do the older versions, it is only one button to turn off and on and even with gloves its not hard to use..i like the idea of a cam after a mate of mine was stopped still at a red light and a van came round the corner and smashed into him, as he is being stretchered into the ambulance he could hear the driver of the van tell the police that richie rode into him...luckily there was an independent witness who could tell the truth

British Eventing haven't allowed competitors to use helmet cams since the Schumacher accident.

Cameras mounted to the outside of a crash helmet is pretty much a no-go area in motorsport following Michael Schumachers skiing accident, but these are permitted:

Its a thin camera that mounts inside the helmet above the eyeline.
