No
I have recently renewed my motor insurance and for the first time in nearly 60 years of driving bikes and cars, I have never been asked for a copy of my drivers license, until this time. Has any one else been asked for theirs?

Yes I have especially for my bike policy which is with E-Bike.
I had to email a scan of it to them.

Never been asked when insuring car, but always ask for Licence when I insure the bike.

I've only been driving for 50 odd years and have never been asked.

In 40 years of driving I was asked for my license for the first time 2 years ago. This was when I was changing insurance company's. I changed again this year and was not asked. May be it is just certaine company's

I think it' varies from company to company, and I'm fairly sure not essential.
After all you don't have to be able to drive a car to be the owner / registered keeper or the policy holder.

Never been asked for a copy of mine for cars, bikes or vans.

Car Insurance never, campervan every renewal, but as they are the best value by far its not to onerous.

I was asked for a photocopy of my licence this year when I renewed my bike insurance but not my car, personally I would rather have it that way as if the need arises to make a claim thats when they want to see your paperwork (licence and proof of ncb etc) and thouroughly check out what you've told them . If for some reason you cant produce it thats your claim rejected.

Proof of ncb I can understand but they have easier and less scam'able access to your driving status than asking for a scan of the license. bearing in mind the only part you need now is the plastic card.

Museum piece that :D

Many thanks everyone for your replies.

I did contact the broker and asked why they wanted copies of drivers licenses and they replied saying that some insurance companies did ask for proof and mine is one of them (KGM). Since they were the cheapest quote I got, providing I get my cash-back, then I don't really mind.

One other thing they said was, despite the fact they provide an international insurance certificate, they still want to be notified when my car will be out of the country. This is also a first for me since the demise of the Green card.

Interesting .... I've been with KGM for quite a few years and never been asked for a copy of my licence.

What's a driving licence :coat:
