Can someone explain this to me:

Recently I let my insurance run out as I thought the then company was too expensive :( anyway tried a few others and found that the original was probably the better deal , so today I call them and say I'd like to renew my insurance OK they say but I'll have to give you a new quote as it's already expired!

OK I say how much?

£540 they quote

Now here's what I don't understand::thinking:

The original renewal price was for £660 :cuckoo:

How come?

Did that also include credit charges? that bumps it up a bit. It usually helps to say "well that's close to another quote but not good enough"; that usually prompts a re-quote and a reduced premium.

The point is - if I'd just renewed the policy It would have cost £100+ more :suspect:

never renew - always get quotes from companies you are not with - then ask your existing company to match - or you leave...

The price for new customers is usually lower for things like insurance. The AA and RAC are the same, the renewal rate is always more than for a new member, so what we do is swap from one to t'other and always get the new member rate :D

just a tip but when you renew your insurance, call the a month before the date and say something like 'i've been with you guys for ages, can i have a discount on my renewel?'. I normally get about £40-£80 off each year.

I agree, the threat of leaving always seems to knock the price down a few quid.

blimey, thats the cheapest insurance i've ever heard of. Do you like on a deserted island?

Nope! (Mind you, it was only £96 last year). My other Defender, with full business use (for elevated photography) and unlimited mileage is only £149.

Insurance companies rely on customer lazyness, they quote high for renewals because they know that the majority of customers won't query it. Always check around for better deals and always query a renewal quote.

I'm only young (21) and it depends what type of company you go with.

i'm with endsleigh, and they are a brokers, go to different companies. My renewal was £880 for my ford focus, i phone them up, and have a bit of banter with the person at the other end of the phone. Voila, it's £100 cheaper (£780).

it's to keep you with the company at the end of the day...
