...popped her clogs, kicked the bucket, pining for the fjords.

Despite the black humour, she will be missed though to be honest it does feel like we lost her 3 years ago with the dementia. Nearly 84 years old and survived 2 bouts of covid in 6 months in the home she was in! It is in truth a relief for the family, but more importantly for her as she had little quality of life by the end. Tonight I shall raise a glass (or three).

Sorry to hear that Paul :(
But of course a little dark humour tends to be the British ( and Irish) way of remembrance.

Condolences, I’ll raise my glass also ;)

It's a difficult thing: we have no wish for the ones we love to die, yet there comes a time when to die seems beter than to live. It sounds like you are at peace over it, which is good.

Condolences Paul, those old'uns were certainly tough.
Not nice to see them going downhill, best to recall the happier times.

My old ma survived the Blitz, TB, Cancer, Pleurisy, C Diff and worst of all, raising me.
Just started geting a bit of dementia when she was killed crossing the road at 88.

A MIL who will be missed? I'm sure she'd see the funny side.

I'll join you and raise a fruit juice to her and all those who leave us today.

Condolences. It comes to us all, but we should preserve the good memories.

Just back from the funeral, song at the end chosen by the daughters. Time of our lives from Dirty Dancing :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Their mother loved the film and seemed appropriate and put a smile on people's faces.

A "like" seemed inappropriate (but I do!)

A funeral is sad, but is also a celebration for the life that has gone and should reflect that persons character. I have learned so much about peoples lives that I had no idea about!

Mum went through the curtain to Arthur Wood's Barwick Green and the curtains parted just at the "Dum-di-dum-di-dum-de-dah" moment. (It's the Archers theme tune.)

As Heather said, funerals are sad occasions but should also be a celebration of the guest of honour's life.
