Most over-exuberant thankyou for holding a door open for someone?

Normally I just mutter "Cheers" or "thanks" but just heard someone say "Thanks, what a gentleman. You're a star!". Seems a tad over the top to me. :ROFLMAO:

I had a woman kiss me once, said it was the first time in ages someone had acted gentlemanly to her. Took me rather by surprise

Unusual to hear any sort of thank you these days.

Dont go to Norway then, nobody keeps the door open for anybody over there, funny lot.
ps - Well done for the upkeep of gentlemanly behaviour.

on a stop in France last week, a woman exclaimed "Wow!" several times for holding a door for her. strange

I must admit, I've said "Thanks, you're a gent", more than once.

The best comment I ever got for holding a door open was from a young lady of about 25 in Oxford Street around 10 years ago. It was "Thank you so much, do you think you could teach the men of my age how to do that?"

years ago when i stopped to let a women through first she said..."your just being awkward" But more recently ..couple of weeks ago i stopped to let a group of asian women got before me into a large department store and one turned to the rest and asked (in a rather nasty tone) why i had stopped going in the shop when I saw them :(

A women said to my father, after holding the door open "There's no need to hold the door because I'm a woman!"

He said "I held the door because I'm a gentleman"

I'd probably get a slap if I tried that

My OH came home the other day looking rather pleased with himself. Whilst paying for a car parking ticket a lady found she didn’t have the correct money to purchase one herself. She was apparently in a rush and late for an appointment and a little stressed out. OH did his good deed for the day and bought her the ticket, By way of thanks she hugged and kissed him thus making his day too.

I always hold doors open for people because I have been taught manners.
However, if they do not say thank you, I always say

"IGNORANT S**T"

It kind of evens things up.

My granny would spin in her grave if I didn't hold a door open for someone. or walk on the outside of the pavement when with a woman. I used to get a clip round the ear if I ever forgot so I don't forget any more :)

Agree

It's how I was brought up and still will hold a door open for a woman, let a woman go first etc. Whilst trained into it, I actually feel it is a correct thing to do.

Sadly as time goes on it will die out and it might get harder to stick to the programming; more shops have automatic doors and the generations coming along behind are no longer used to or expecting something like a courtesy. The worst for me was recently I opened a door for a woman in what I would guess was her mid 40s age wise, I was leaving a local shop and held the door open for he, she turned, gurned a face at me and said "up yours" to me...... I resisted letting her car tyres down but that was due to my not having a matchstick on me.....

No, the incident I described above was between two males.
Get your coat, you've pulled

Am I the only one who holds the door for people regardless of their gender?
I do that too, also, it p***es me off if I'm right behind someone and they let a spring loaded door "go".
I always thank them for that too ;)

I like to hold the door open for people when they are a distance away and make them run, or at least walk faster. ;)

Friend of mine used to kick the door as it swung back at him, hold his face and feign injury to make the "offender" feel really guilty, mind that was a few years ago.

I like to walk more slowly when I see someone holding a door to see how long they'll stand there. ;)
