More lens advice needed please

Please excuse my ignorance but im a super novice:D only been snapping for about a week

I even had the lady in jessops today explaining what aperture was:eek:

Ive bought my pals d40x and that just has the standard 18 -55mm lens

Im basically hooked now and i want to get a lens that has a bit more range and maybe a wide angle lens also...

since im a Noob i was thinking it would be silly to spend a fortune so i was thinking (hoping) that i could get a telephoto lens (200mm+) for around £150. Im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for around that price. I understand im not going to get the hubble for that price but there has to be something half decent.

I created a site to host my images as i thought i would take this "hobby" seriously... if anyone would like to take a look at the very few pics i have taken, and maybe give me some advice on what im doing then please do so ( i have big shoulders so slate away :lol:)

Just viewed your site (good by the way) and it doesnt look like you are a novice - those waterside shots are really good.
 
You have a great eye!

For under 150 there's no contest really. The Nikon 55-200mm VR can be found for under 130. Fine picture quality and VR, which is pretty vital if you don't use a tripod. It's super light too. Build quality is poor and it's slow but same as anything in that price range.

Sigma 10-20mm is a popular wide angle with good quality and a great price.

I have put one of the Nikon 55-200mm in my ebay list, there going for around £120 which you cant grumble at... the wide angle ones are much more which i was shocked at:eek:
