Back again pitting the 30D, 50D, 1D2 and 5D against each other.
The following shots were taken using a 600/4 IS on each body. Shots taken at f/8 and f/16 in AV mode at ISO 400. They were all cropped to the same view and then the same amount of USM applied. Focus was on the brown horizontal rectangle at the top of the visible portion of the mast.

looks like the 5D needs some time under the shower - got a nasty rash there!
I still prefer the 5D shots though
or is that because I have one?!?

Yes, I noticed those too....it rarely gets used above f/2.8 so it's not been visible before. Arctic Butterfly time tomorrow.

Very different colours of the sky in those, not sure which is the closest to actual though. From those I'd have the 1Dmk2 low on the list, yet if it was shooting a fast moving subject it would be out performing the others

 wow, mainly at the difference in colour rendition between them! Must try this with my 2 nikon bodies [d300 will be mine in about 7 hours form now, and the d70s], but those results are quite startling. If you asked me to pick the most 'natural' looking it would be the 50D, the others are either too vibrant [5D], too washed out [1D2] or in the 30D case, too muddy looking.

Still, not to worry, they are only canons :p ;)

I agree Susie...the 1D2 has the frame rate and AF but falls behind in IQ all too obviously. I got the 50D pretty much for the micro-adjust feature but I have to say (reluctantly so) that I'm quite impressed by its output. I can't see the 30D being used for anything other than macro from now on.

Actually Yvonne, the sky was quite blue today with very little haze...the 5D is probably the best rendition of the four.

Well i'm glad i dont have the 1Dmk2, I'm on middle ground as i own the 30d, shame about the noise of the 5D as it still out performs the others in my opinion, the 50D would probably look better with reducing the exposure but lack of noise is great.

Well the 50D does look pretty impressive, will be interesting to see some sports shots once people start getting it out and about, I'm really looking at the IQ compared to the 1D and 30D as for me the FF of the 5D is a different beastie!!

Very interesting to see the difference though, thanks a lot for taking the time to do that :D
