OK, so I am using CS2, and made a duplicated layer background blurred it masked it as I wish to use the earser tool. Suddenly it started leaving marks on the image which were not there before and I cannot work out how to change it?!?!?!?

Here is an example, I used a darken overlay to exaggerate it but this is whats happening. Is it a brush thing? :bang:

Help me TP you are my only hope!

what you are doing is revealing the un edited layer below, when using the eraser, lessen the opacity right down as you reach the edges of what it is you are exposing, I go graduated from 100% to 5%, icidentally, a layer mask and a black brush to remove the image and a white brush to put it back is better than the eraser tool ;)

Hi Diego,
Mariannes method of using the feathered brushes rather than the eraser is the best way to go. Make sure you check that you havn't added any custom effects to your brush (like spacing, jitter, etc) as this will result in the effect you are descibing.
I find the smoothest way to do this is to make a path around the item you wish to isolate, convert it to a selection (with very slight feathering - 2px or so) and then use the brushes/gradient tools to create smooth graduations - by varying opacity as Marianne suggested.
Good luck.

Thanks guys, will check that.

moomike, can I reset brushes as well as other tools as it was fine yesterday.

Just started ealier when I was working on some stuff.

Cheers.

click on the brush tool, then click on the tiny triangle next to the brush, top left of your screen, then click the tiny triangle in the box that appears and you can choose the options to reset tools :)
