Hi,

Am looking to buy a monopod for sports photography. Main interests are Rugby at my local club!

I have a Canon 400D which I use with / without a battery grip and I am unsure what height monopod I need so that when I make a shot stood up I won't be stooping (OK I know I should get lower if possible but not always possible...). I am 6'3" tall.

Looking at the Manfrotto products the highest simple monopods seem to be about 161 cm (although some of the more expensive 'self standing' and carbon varieties go up to 170cm.

So is the ~160cm high enough? If not what other brands should I be looking at? What are you other lanky people using?

Many thanks in advance...

Mark F

take a look at this thread, exact same height 6'3"

Thanks for the quick reply, apologies for not finding the previous thread via the search...

I think this Giottos might be an option. It appears to have a tilt head included in the price which is important to me as my 70-300 doesn't have a fitting for a lens collar for switching from portrait <-> landscape... Which I was asking about here...

no problem glad to be of help, that one does look like an option for you.

Im 6'3" and use a Giottos too, Really well built and well worth the money.

Would rate my P-Pod oe just about any other monopod out there...

but saying that the case/carry bag it came in was rubbish it split on my first outing :(

My case is still going strong! I have it permanently strapped to my bag, and just pull the pod out of the sleeve leaving the sleeve still strapped to the bag. :)

Another vote for Giotto. I have one which I fitted with a simple Manfrotto horizontal/vertical head to allow landscape/portrait shots. As I am 6'2" I was keen, like you not to do an impression of the hunchback of Notre Dame when taking pictures on a monopod.

Anthony.

Thanks. This combination is looking as my most likely combination at the moment...
