I had been recommended an app on the forum sometime ago, but I can't for the life of me find the thread. I'd like to be able to see my data consumption when using wifi so that when I tether to my android mobile - I can control which apps are eating data in the background. Does anybody know an app that would do the job?

I use the Photos app quite heavily, but often when away from home and I'm realising that it's eating all my mobile data uploading in the background. I'm not sure if it's any different when you hotspot to an iphone - does Photos intelligently stop uploading?

Does it not show under network in activity monitor
You're right - I didn't realise I could find it there. Now just to figure out how to work on photos and stop it from trying to upload changes

Disabling iCloud photos in settings is probably the best part.

Doesn't that cause issues when you want to turn it back on. I've a feeling it will to rebuild the library etc.

Ideally I still want it to work when connected to home wifi - but be able to toggle it's data consumption when using tethering.

The Mac section starts half way down the page and discusses an application called Tripmode that appears to do what you want.
