I have just started to get into post processing and have a 13" Macbook Pro and LR5, the problem is that the screen working area is quite small and i would prefer to do my editing on a larger screen. Can anyone recommend a decent monitor to link to my Macbook and help me improve my editing?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Rick

What kind of budget are you talking Rick?

Not sure about connections from the mac but decent ips monitor are the Dell ips range. Hopefully some who uses them with a mac can suggest the exact model number.

I guess around £200 but I'm not sure what is a reasonable model. I could google it of course but I'd prefer to hear from someone who actually uses them. I have bought an adaptor for VGA if needed although if there is a direct plug in I'd prefer that.

Thanks

Having just checked the MacBook I see it has an HDMI port so im guessing the latest monitors also have that.

Have a look at the Dell U2412M - £195 at Amazon. 1920 x 1200 and that extra height makes a big difference. I have one and would recommend it. Got it after many threads on here recommended it.

I've not got that one, but I'm also very pleased with my Dell, for what it's worth :)

The Brians are also right on the extra vertical resolution, it helps!

TFT Central were quite pleased with the one you linked though :)

Ordered. Thanks

Depending on you MacBook you'll need an adapter to connect it to the Monitor. If the MacBook has a Thunderbolt port(s) this acts as a monitor output, like a mini display port. ( I think it's only the latest models with HDMI output have Thunderbolt ports, but please check) . Check what input the Dell has, and you can get various adapters from the Apple store.

The Dell U2412M has the usual VGA and DVI plus DisplayPort connections.

The monitor has arrived now and I have got it set up. I'm impressed with the quality, I currently have it via VGA, is there anything to be gained by using the DVI cable instead?

Cheers

Technically the DVI should be "better", but I've carefully examined images swapping between the VGA and the DVI connections and I cannot discern any difference between them.

Having said that, I am using the DVI connection, and if you have the cable why not use it?
As I said, IN THEORY, DVI should be better.
I'm using an AMD Radeon R7 200 series video card.

Glad you like the DELL, I found it was a major improvement on my previous LG TN screen.

DVI is digital, VGA is analogue. Longer cables and higher resolutions will show the difference more readily. If you have a DVI cable then use it.

I would need to buy some sort of adaptor to use DVI. I have the cable but it won't fit my MacBook pro so I'd need something like an HDMI > DVI or something or other. The Apple adaptor is £25 plus p&p and if there is no real difference I'll save the money.

If I'll notice it then I'll spend the little extra. :)

It would be much cheaper to use an HDMI lead from your macbook and then an HDMI to DVI on the other end. Should be about a fiver.

I have a DVI to HDMI lead I got off ebay. Cost a couple of quid. Just searched on eBay and the first one listed was £1.79 with free postage. Get all my leads from eBay now and never had a problem.

Edited to add link.

I'll try one of those. Thanks.
