I need a new monitor and would appreciate your thoughts on the following choices based on my budget!

Dell 24" S2415H £180

LG 25" IPS 25UM58 £150

Can't afford much more as pc playing up too!!

Thanks

I have an LG IPS. It's fine. I haven't compared it with the Dell, which seems very popular. I didn't shop around when I bought it - when your only monitor goes phut on Christmas Eve all you can do it run to the nearest shop and buy what they sell.......!

That LG looks interesting for split screen LR or PS work and they are 99% sRGB? Especially if you opt for the 29inch model??? Oh, both sizes are the same resolution so pros & cons of either squeezing to much onto a 25inch vs as same resolution bigger makes things look too small???

I was also keeping my eye on the Dell 2716D for a future buy but the LG possibly poses further thinking? This has high % sRGB and aRGB

Right I have been checking specs and the Dell 24" S2415H £180 is not worth IMO considering as it is not an IPS panel with only an 85% undeclared gamut

However the LG's mention factory calibrated...........unsure how that impacts on their user calibration and what level of control of calibration they will offer???

When I have time I will download the manuals and perhaps email LG support.

But price point wise compared to what I think is 'new' benchmark based on spec of the Dell UP2716D, though at £480 it twice the price of the LG 29UM68-P.

All food for thought as my current Dell 2209WA is only 1680x1050 resolution compared to the UP2716D @ 2560 x 1440 and the LG 29UM68-P @ 2560 x 1080

@Jannyfox in regard to your LG IPS can you say which model it is and if you are calibrating it........and with what make & model calibrator?

I have a Dell U2515H and it's great. Colours are bob on and prints from the uncalibrated screen come out exactly as I'd expect. So I'd plumb for the Dell model.

IPS LED 22EA63
Not one of the huge ones - I really can't handle big monitors that make my eyes or my hand move too much. I've never calibrated it. It seems pretty good and if anyone has made a comment about something they've seen/not seen on their calibrated monitor I always see exactly the same. TBH for what I do I wouldn't calibrate a monitor unless I knew it really needed doing as I don't sell my work, print it myself or anything like that (oh that it was good enough!) If I was going to use a printing service I'd get a test print first and make any necessary adjustments from that.

if you're considering an LG read (LG rep gets involved from page 4) - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18665128

and to paraphrase the rep regarding backlight bleed "Realistically now, all models would be the 8 range (25UM58, 29UM68, 34UM88 etc etc), and these would be all with the improved process."

however it was enough to make me swerve purchasing an LG display after reading Omars experience of their CS.

one thing I will add about editing on an ultrawise (in my case a 29" asus 2560x1080), the extreme letterbox format can hinder editing slightly, i.e. everything is a bit squashed, particularly portrait shots. if anything in hindsite i should have gotten a 2560x1440.

Thanks for the replies - decided upon the Dell S2415H according to a dell rep this model has an IPS screen - Curry's, John Lewis don't mention IPS but a few other suppliers do, that's why I got in touch with Dell to confirm it has IPS

Might the UP 2516D be more suitable for editing mate? See here: although out of stock the spec details are all there for each monitor so you might get a better handle on comparisons

https://www.nrgit.biz/products/dell-up2516d-ultrasharp-qhd-25-inch-monitor

Oh and cheers to neil.g above whom mentioned this vendor in another thread ,thanks mate!! If all works out you might have saved me a packet

take care

Stu
