Yes
thinking about monitor calibration and wondering what the best options are.

Not necessarily the most expensive but what works. I've got a MacBook Air and an iMac so would be useful to equalise both screens.

Thanks.

Another vote for the Colormunki. Does a very good job of calibrating my two monitors.

Don't know if this help's, I have just hired this from Lens Locker.

Saul.

I use the Color Munki photo - even more expensive than the one mentioned above but it does the printer too. I used to borrow one from the camera club I'm in, but I picked one up second hand for £100 which was too good to pass up, even though it's only for occasional use.

Another vote for colormunki! Did have an eye1 but wasn't windows 8 compatible

how frequently to you use these?

It's obviously up to you to decide but you can set the Color Munki software to nag you every week, or every two or three weeks etc.

There's a really useful guide to using the Color Munki for calibration here by Damien Symonds - far better than the official ColorMunki guidance. He recommends every four weeks.

My colormunki is attached at the time. Have recalibrated a couple of times but it sorts the brightness to the room conditions

I always thought the general consensus was to turn off any automatic adjustments and to try and keep the room lighting consistent instead

I suppose it is but my desk is in the dining room and it is sued by the whole family so for me this works best

In THAT situation it may be useful... but that's not the ideal. Ideally you should manage the environment to be constant.

I should have a room free in my house soon that will be an office. I will do that then
