Hi Tony, this is a bit off thread but I've been wondering for a while and you're probably the best to ask given your experience. How many shots do you average at a football match with digital and how does it compare to shooting with film. How on earth did you (and other sports togs) manage with changing film all the time. Did you have more than the 36 exposure rolls or did you just have to be quick in changing rolls so as to miss the least possible action. Hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread, but at least it's football.

PS, I've just looked at lots of papers online and cannot find any photos from Burton apart from the one Robin mentioned.

Sorry Stoo...Never used a film camera...

Ok Tony, that's no problem, my main question though, how many shots do you average at a match. I can get through around 3000 shots a day at an airshow (over 3 or 3 cameras) but they aren't too regular. It's just I've been asked by a friends daughters boyfriend if I could do some shots at a match he's playing in and it set me wondering how much hammer the camera would get.

its almost an impossible question to answer and wont be of any use to you...because 50 photogrpahers at man city v man utd and each take toally different amount of pictures..

It depends on the match.. exciting.. boring..
daytime nightime can effect how many
it depends what your taking pictures for.. stock? you will take thousands...Just action for local paper you will take maybe a couple of hundred ...for for sale on web you will take thousandes...

all these things and many more will determine how many pics you take.... i shoot all football from junior to adults.. park football to pro football at highest level.. i shoot for different reasons...

not rtrying to be awkward but i cant simply give you a figure on such an open ended question :)

Plus I would never make a decision on how much hammer a camera gets...

I ahve sat there wondering what to shoot while the guy near me is firing em off like hes getting paid per click...

sorry stoo .. not much help are we... your lookng at the higher hundreds towards a thousand i would guess..

its not the worse question :) the worse question is...whats your keeper rate ...aaaargh :(

Matches this year I seem to average around the 550 mark, not sure how it always ends around that figure but it does

Apart from bigger games, managed just under 900 on Sunday

I realise it's a hard question to answer, but I'd guessed it would be in the high hundreds upwards. Not too worried about the hammer the camera would get for a match (or even a few in a season), by the amount I've taken in a year I should easily get 5 or 6 years before I get up to the shutter rating (just a figure, I know it can go anytime it wants so not worried about that either) and I could do with getting out and do some more shooting. I wont ask about the keeper rate by the way, that would be most rude :D

You've all been a great help, I just wonder how they managed in the old days with changing film all the time. At an airshow I'd be able to change between planes, at a football match you'd be changing every free kick and throw in

Thanks Guys.
