Modifier for Flash/Speedlight Low Key

Hi, I understand how to do the low key photography (just) but unsure if a Flash/Speedlight modifier would assist in directing the light and making Low Key a little easier.
I have some small grids that fit on the flash/speedgun and also tried a snoot that is really supposed to be used on studio lights.
I want to use this outside for plants and flowers.
Any advice even on Low Key photography please?
