I ordered a couple of modeling lamps from one supplier which were listed as Elinchrom branded with an Elinchrom part number, etc.

I received Photolux.

So I researched to find a discussion in another forum where Elinchrom and Photolux lamps were being compared.

Intrigued, I ordered two more Elinchrom lamps from another supplier, and this time I get Elinchrom branded as expected.

However, the first supplier tells me that the Photolux lamps were supplied to them directly by Elinchrom!

Anyone have a view on this, please?

I had assumed all modelling bulbs are re-branded as it's probably not economical for them to make their own. I've got a bulb from Profoto here with a massive mark up just because they've stuck a Profoto label over the Osram case.

Assuming that's correct I'd look for a bulb with the correct spec and ignore Bowens/Profoto/etc branding as that's just paying extra for no gain.

The Elinchrom branded bulbs were a pound less, lol :)

You are 100% correct, and you have the correct reason.
If you hold most modelling lamps up to the light you will see a very ordinary (& very very cheap) small halogen bulb inside of the outer glass envelope.
There is no benefit from buying branded modelling lamps at all.

But the Elinchrom boxes look so posh!
