Model Release ..... Where? When?

Im hopefully going to be using a lovely 16year-old girl as my model for a nail comp shortly. As shes quite young, her parents understandably want to meet me, so Im going over there to discuss it tomorrow.

I need to make it plain to them that once my picture is entered into the competition it becomes the property of Trades Exhibitions & they can print it as, where, & when they like. Obviously I need to get them to sign a model release but where do I get one? And as she's still a minor would you ask them to sign prior to shooting her?
 
There is a model release form available on Digital Photo Magazine's website if I remember rightly.

Yep - you need parental permissions for anyone under 17 (might even be 18 now) in the UK and US. You might consider a chaperone as well - mum's are the best for this sort of thing.
 
Yup tis a good idea to get her to sign one (and her parents / guardians if she's under 18).

Technically though you don't need a model release in the UK.

However, it's good to have one, especially if you're intent on using the image outside of the UK. Also, alot of stock agencies will require one as they often have international clients.

Errr, dont think I need to worry about Stock Agencies just yet Marcel ... but Ill remember that bit of info for future ref. ;)
 
I'd go for getting all signed before you start Glo, explain to them it’s about protecting yourself, and (Sales pitch) authenticating the images and model ...kind of thing. :thinking:

I'd also add that the images can’t be used in any derogatory or illegitimate manner, as that would mean they could sue the pants off you. People like to know they have rights too.

Ive just come back from meeting the parents. I knew before I got there that the addy was quite exclusive but my jaw hit the floor on arriving in front of the huge electric gates of their home.
They seemed to prefer the idea of me shooting it at their place and as they have a tad more space than me, I agreed.
Now Im feeling Im heaping excess pressure on myself to perform here ... I do the nails, make-up & photography so need a lot of concentration when I work.
Im new at being on this end of the camera with strangers ... any advice apart from the obvious checklist before I leave the house?

This is the thing you have to overcome when you start charging money for using your camera. Dealing with people you don't know, and often big groups of them, comes with the territory. Having an outgoing sort of personality is a big help, but it can be difficult initially, until you've gained some experience in directing and posing people.

Have absolute faith in your kit - double check everything, and try to assume an air of relaxed calm and assurance even if you really have no idea WTF you're doing. :lol:
