Hi everyone,

I'm in need of some options of powering my studio lights on location.

I would normally mount double speedlites for extra power and flexibility but I'd like to start using my studio lights as I feel more comfortable with them.

I'm using elinchrom lights, so what's the best option for batteries etc?

Innovatronix or Godox

Yip that ^
Not cheap though

yeah i had a look.... not cheap at all?!

are there cheaper alternatives bar just using speedlites lol

There's the recent bare bulb speed lights that give lots more power than a std speedlight (from about £350 OTTOMH, godox Lencarta and others), then there are purpose built portable studio lights, from about £500 see ilux, lencarta, bessel.

But the inverter is probably cheaper if you want to use your current heads and if they're powerful enough.

weight is more of an issue for me then price for location. Particularly if you need a lot of portability. The bare build speed lights give much more power then speed lights. I have one and generally I'm pretty happy with it. I don't think it has enough power to overcome ambient, but I knew this before I bought it. Purpose built lights are more powerful, but cost lots more. I'd be considering rangers as we'll as @Phil V 's list depending on your priorities.

I got a 300w/s studio strobe with a battery pack you wear around your shoulder like a sling on Ebay from Quantuum, a Polish firm. It's good. Excellent for weddings. Just a normal studio strobe taking Bowens S modifiers which you can also use outside. A bit like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-...raphy_Flash_Lighting_Kits&hash=item4858d75657

Also on Ebay are strobes from Hong Kong with embedded batteries like this one~: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Portable-...K_Photography_Flash_Heads&hash=item5d48f5c9de

No idea how good or reliable they are but they look very portable.

Ah Rooster. Now you have done it! I like the look of the first link a lot. Going to have a look at quantum stuff now.

I've seen those lights in the second link melt in your hands, literally!

Mind that's Quantuum with two U's. Had a quick look for their website but it seems to be under construction or something. I paid £200 for mine, it's a good solid piece of kit. If you have an assistant at a wedding they can act as a human light stand and follow you about. This is an old listing for the one I got: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOBILE-St...Pack-MOBILE-Lamp-BOWENS-fit-NEW-/250901101669
