Yes, we've seen this sort of thing before, but this Qromascan device for scanning prints using your iphone (android later)mentioned on dpreview (link earlier is to the kickstarter) does look interesting. I like the idea of voice recognition to add the metadata, although what it will do with "um, I think that must be uncle Charles in the background..." I'm not sure!
