Maybe a touchy subject here, I know it is in other places but here goes..

As someone who lugs around big heavy camera gear as a day job, I became increasingly frustrated with lugging the same kit around as part of my hobby, days out and the odd shot.. I gradually chopped it down to a day-bag and a smallish body (Fuji S3) and a lens.. or 2.. Still, a pain sometimes when that's all I do, all day anyway. Plus.. the habit of shooting in RAW demands some conversion and prep before anything can be uploaded to anywhere.

I ended up with a Fuji compact as a result, for those days off. Again though, card reader needed, JPG's uploaded, faff faff..

Along comes the mobile phone, in my case one of those fangled things from Apple.

Guess what, I've found freedom at last! the urge to make snapshots again, the urge to drag the photos through a one-hit post-processor on the phone and upload directly to just about anywhere online. I am totally and utterly loving the freedom and no-brainer part of it all. It leaves me free again to just ''play'' and enjoy making photos again.

Of course, the big issue then arises, is this photography? I've heard soo many people slating mobile phone photography, oddly, it's mostly people who have just spent their fortune on expensive gear. :|
Posting this sort of photography to photography forums also causes friction, critics and pixelpeepers are often dumbstruck by the whole thing, forgetting the basics of it all, it's the view, the vision, the creativity, the feeling, the story, the person behind the camera, that makes a photo. The camera just takes it.

I might just risk being hounded out of the village by starting to post some of the very basic and back to the roots stuff that I've been coming up with. I hope there are other people around with this strange illness, it's a heck of a lot of fun! :)

With respect,
Rob.

One of my favourite photos I took was with my camera phone. This was with the N95 before I upgraded to the 8gb version. Taken in close up mode.
The exif should still be intact.

photography is photography, it doesn't matter what you use.

There is an argument that the simpler the camera the harder it is to get a "good" shot.

stands back and waits for flak

The massive advantage of a mobile phone camera is that you have probably always got it with you when you're out and about. I can't say the same for my D80!

Where else could I have got an image like this, from some time ago when an ice cream van was seized?

Or back in February when I was walking to work over Waterloo Bridge?

Check out Chase Jarvis's iPhone photo of the day, stunning images. For displaying online 2MP is more than enough and as has been said before the best camera is the onethat is with you.

I don't think the cameraphone will ever replace even a compact camera but your right its great to have one with you at all times, it was certainly what influenced me to buy my C905, mainly for things like nights out, and for stuff to stick online where the quality from a DSLR isn't needed.

I've recently started taking some pics with my iPhone due to the fact that I had been at work and didn't want to lug my 50D to work and back.

I've not done anything with the pics, just upload them straight to flickr and my photoblog.

camerabag is one of my favourite iPhone apps right now, along with Polarize.
My whole thing with the mobile photos is that I don't use them as they are, they all get splashed through a one-hit processor on the phone, just to make them that different.
Out of the phone pics are good, but then they're back in the realms of.. could be but not quite.. the urge to open photoshop is strong for me then.

I used to laugh at the thought of Lomo and the grungy carefree style it brought to photography, but now.. strangely. I'm enjoying my own kind of mobile snapping. I'm glad others are too.

A phone is handy for a quick snap shot, also with these new smart phones being able to upload directly to facebook etc is good.

I've got a compact too, which is good for occasions when you know you will be taking photos but don't want/need to use a slr. BBQ/pub etc.

This chap thinks his iPhone camera is so good he can do wedding photography with it!

Utter garbage... :naughty: ... and note how all those who profess to follow "The Pact" throughout that thread totally disregard and abuse it... :suspect: ... whatalotta tosh... :cuckoo:

:p

I took this on my iphone and added a little pp effect using an iphone app called camerabag...

bah, cant upload images to here clicky the link to see it

Great app. I use it a lot. I started using the crummy 2mpx camera on the iPhone after I read about Chase Jarvis using it. After coming down from a 5mpx camera phone (Nokia) I didn't even want to try the iPhone camera. But I realized that pixels aren't all that matter.
