Maybe a touchy subject here, I know it is in other places but here goes..
As someone who lugs around big heavy camera gear as a day job, I became increasingly frustrated with lugging the same kit around as part of my hobby, days out and the odd shot.. I gradually chopped it down to a day-bag and a smallish body (Fuji S3) and a lens.. or 2.. Still, a pain sometimes when that's all I do, all day anyway. Plus.. the habit of shooting in RAW demands some conversion and prep before anything can be uploaded to anywhere.
I ended up with a Fuji compact as a result, for those days off. Again though, card reader needed, JPG's uploaded, faff faff..
Along comes the mobile phone, in my case one of those fangled things from Apple.
Guess what, I've found freedom at last! the urge to make snapshots again, the urge to drag the photos through a one-hit post-processor on the phone and upload directly to just about anywhere online. I am totally and utterly loving the freedom and no-brainer part of it all. It leaves me free again to just ''play'' and enjoy making photos again.
Of course, the big issue then arises, is this photography? I've heard soo many people slating mobile phone photography, oddly, it's mostly people who have just spent their fortune on expensive gear. :|
Posting this sort of photography to photography forums also causes friction, critics and pixelpeepers are often dumbstruck by the whole thing, forgetting the basics of it all, it's the view, the vision, the creativity, the feeling, the story, the person behind the camera, that makes a photo. The camera just takes it.
I might just risk being hounded out of the village by starting to post some of the very basic and back to the roots stuff that I've been coming up with. I hope there are other people around with this strange illness, it's a heck of a lot of fun!
With respect,
Rob.
