Mobile phone batteries, anyone?

My mobile phone battery sometimes has a bit of a funny turn and won't hold its charge for as long as it should, then after several recharges acts normally again. I don't think it's usage as apart from collecting a few emails it hardly gets used. I found a replacement battery (Duracell, from Maplins) but it only has 3 terminals. My original battery has 4. The battery packaging states it's for a Samsung S4 Mini, which is what my phone is. Anyone know what the terminals are for and whether it's possible to use the replacement battery in the phone (I haven't tried it, obviously)? I know that in the world of computers/phone where anything more than a few months old is defunct my phone is ancient (less than 3 years old............!) but I don't want to replace it if I don't have to.

I think some phones have the Near Field Function in the battery, I wonder if one terminal is for that.
I have seen reports after market batteries do not have that function.

Thanks guys. I have no idea what near field function is, but I presume it's the same as NFC in the discussion Roger referenced? The packaging has a little blue label on it that says 'with NFC', so now I'm confused. The phone is the GT19195. The packaging says it's compatable with that model (didn't find that bit earlier - there was a label stuck across it) so I guess it is safe to use?

NFC is just a function you can enable a bit like contactless for bank cards it allows your phone to do things when other NFC phones or devices are pressed against it.

I suspect worse case is NFC will not work but if you don't use it like me also then happy days.

I bought my last official Samsung S5 battery from Amazon for £12 delivered. Easy to get the real one for the phone.

If you want some fun, put the old battery on the patio and puncture it. Make sure it's nowhere near anything flammable

Goto Samsung shop and buy one from there
