For the 2nd day running I've seen a dozen or more magpies in a tree outside my garden.

They all seem to be fighting for the highest branch to perch on. Is this a mating dance?

No, it just seems that Magpies are taking over the entire World. I have never seen so many around. There is a tree in a couple of gardens along, which has a dozen of the chattering varmints perched there. I suppose they are just waiting for the songbirds to leave their nests, and then nick their eggs.:'(
 
My mate's just told me it's called a parliament, and the existing territory owners get together to drive out interlopers. The weird thing was it was all done incomplete silence, amazing got they're normally so noisy.
 
A murder of magpies I think is the collective? ;-)

I stand corrected...murder sounds about right, the racket they make outside my bedroom window, most days..but they look so damned gorgeous
