Mittens from Decathlon

Nope - they seem remarkably cheap for what they promise. I don't really understand how a non insulated piece of nylon can increase the temperature by 7 degrees.

I use Inov-8 mittens for the same purpose (and also without gloves as I find them warmer than gloves). I bet the Decathlon ones are fine - unless they are lying about the waterproof bit.

My expectation is that they reduce heat loss by providing a windproof barrier between the lightweight gloves and the environment, slowing heat lost through the thin gloves and allowing local heating between fingers. They'll help, certainly.

Yes. I'd imagine that's the theory.

But 10 degrees and I'm reaching for a coat. 17 degrees (which is the claimed benefit) and I'm thinking about shorts. That's a *lot* of difference.

Also, if a windproof barrier is all you need, try a couple of freezer bags. They will keep the wind off but won't do a huge amount of warming.

I'll bet these are great for a tenner (Kalenji stuff usually is), but 7 degrees of extra warmth seems ridiculous.

BTW just got an email from Decathlon - free delivery on all orders today only. So, it's a good day to try them :)

IME Decathlon kit is generally very good for the money and their high end stuff is as good as any of the most expensive-brand kit.

I have a pair of pretty cheap windstopper mittens and they are fantastic for walks

Thanks for the input everyone. Only just seen in store only but will search out something similar
