Mirror locked!!!! HELP!!!

Just had first attempt at sensor cleaning on my new Canon 40D. That went ok, but now the mirror won't come down. Have tried everything I can think of.......switch on and off a few times....take out battery and put back.....anyone got any bright ideas?

You have probably done this but - have you gone into the menu and turned the Mirror Lock Up function to "off"?

I'm sure you've read the book Carole

but if you haven't............Why not

If you turn it on again and enter manual cleaning mode again does the display say CLEAN ?

After that the book says to just turn off the camera.

Phew! solved it...though not entirely sure how! Set all the menu settings back to factory default and everything came back to life.
