.... I've read the various info about being able to take photos of people in public places for non commercial use. I assume there are no special laws regarding minors?

I've not tried any street photgraphy yet, but would like to. I can just imagine some irate mother attacking me fearing that her daughter was included half a mile away in a general crowd or something.... (recalling an article recently where a father was called a p*** for photographing his own kids in the park).

thoughts?

Cheers,
Gordon

My thoughts.

Public place.

Shoot what you like !!

With one proviso.

Occasionally some children are in care or under protection orders and cannot be photographed to protect their identity.

It's not common and any social worker or carer with them should tell you and may insist on deleting the pics which, in those circumstances I'd happily do.

There are no laws against it, but unfortunately, given the current situation where everyone with a camera is viewed with suspicion, be prepared for problems.

Defend your position and explain what you're doing. Offering a free print often goes a long way with parents. If you really can't persuade the person to your POV and it's the parents wishes, then it's not the end of the world if you delete the image and show them you've done so.

Whatever you do don't stop trying and let the morally misguided eejits gain the upper hand by default. ;)

There speaketh the truth.

Whatever you do, dont be made to feel like you're doing / have done wrong.

As far as I know you are free to take hotos of people in public places .... providing you do not harass them or the shots are indecent, etc.

Someone will probs be along in a minute, but that's my understanding.

I always show people my images and explain nicely what I am doing if anyone stops me. The promise of a digital copy or a simple view of the LCD normally satisfies most people.

Cheers
