Can anyone give me any tips on using a Minolta DYNAX 4 35mm SLR with 28-80(D) Lens outside on a sunny day to take candids of people, both large crowds, small crowds and single people?

Thanks.

edit - also, does anyone know where I can see some pictures taken with this camera to see the quality? I was just given this camera by a relative who was switching to digital..

If you mean candids like taking photos of people without knowing there's a camera there I think you'll find that lens is a bit to short but the only way to know is to go and try really. I'm not sure we could could give you any golden tip that's going to ensure great photos, it'll be a lot easier to comment on something you've taken on how to improve it next time.

Good luck.

Hi,

I'd be inclined to use the lens at around 80mm, because the subjects will look more natural. Obviously, you'll have to use the wider end for group shots.

The best way to get well exposed shots out of doors, is to make sure the sun is behind you, or at the very least, off to one side.

If you have to take pics with the sun in front of you, make sure that you expose for the shadows, rather than the skin, or you'll get very contrasty shots, with deep shadows, or you could over expose by a stop. Ideally you could use a flash to fill in. If you have a spot meter, things will be easier... just put the metering spot on what is the most important part of the shot for you.

To be absolutely certain, you could bracket each shot, but this could prove expensive, shooting with film.
Good luck.
