Hi guys a little help please
never tried off camera flash before and I got a set of the new Pocket wizards which were delivered at 8.15pm last night
anyway I sat up till late not getting very far and a fair bit of head scratching

I hooked up the mini tt1 on top of my 40D
hooked the flex tt5 to my 580ex2 and after a bit of fiddling on off etc I got the flash working off camera but at no point can I change the settings via the camera which is the main reason I splashed out on these

the menu just says attach a flash gun (not sure of the exact wording off hand)
but I have had a another go tonight and its got me beat as to why the 40D camera menus are not available

if I take the PW's off altogether and flash on the camera hot shoe every things works fine all menu's work etc

I hope this problem is a simple solution - maybe something simple that I might of overlooked???

I thought possibly a bad connection so reaseated the PW's at least 5 times and the menu's wont play ball for me

any of you chaps throw any light on what I moght be doing wrong
cheers
Chris

Not sure if this helps, but the booklet for the 580EX says "all settings are done with the master unit."

Does this mean that for anything other than basic triggering you need to have a master flash (580EX/EXII/ST-E2) attached to the PW transmitter? I am thinking that the PW picks up auxilliary data from the flash gun, not the camera

I'm interested in the new PWs myself so have read up a bit, but I've not used one. Suggest a call to The Flash Centre if you get stuck.

I don't have them but from the reading I've done I understood that they are compatible with ETTL (so you can use FEC) but not that they act like the flash is on the camera. As I say I don't have them so I could be wrong.

Thanks guys
I am slowly increasing my limited (very Limited) off camera flash knowledge, had another play tonight and things are getting a little easier for an old fart like me to understand LOL

I wrongly assumed that I could change the flash settings with the in camera menu's but starting to really enjoy playing about with these PW's
