Hi All,

First post and very glad to have found you all.

After a few years break I'm getting back into photography again. Still have my old film Nikon FG and lenses but now buying a digital slr. I did a fair bit of research and finally settled on the Canon 600d with 18-55mm lens.

I found the kit for sale on the Middleton Banks website. It seemed ok, UK warranty etc.. I tried to find some reviews for the dealer but to no avail. Anyway I went ahead and ordered the kit last Wednesday 11th April. Their website said it was in stock and would be delivered by UPS. There was no delivery date specified but I kind of expected delivery in a couple of days.

I emailed Middleton Banks on Friday to ask when it would be delivered. They replied a day later and said it would be delivered next Thursday 19th April.

Now maybe it's just me, but I would have thought that if it is in stock and delivered by courier in the UK then I would not have to wait 8 days for delivery. I don't mind waiting a few more days but I'm just beginning wonder about this dealer.

Anyway, I will keep you posted.

Really looking forward to trying out my digital slr.

I'll be honest and say I really don't like the look of that one  they may well be genuine but the website is not very well designed and it's only been in existence a very short amount of time :( from what I can see, maybe they only order stuff in when they get an order but I don't know, finally there telephone number appears to be a Burton on Trent number as opposed to Wakefield where they claim to be location though the phone number is very hard to read so maybe I misread it

Yes, it is, I have order the camera as well at (13/4/2012), and it seem like a fake company, and what I have notice is, the phone number cannot reach straight to the customer care, but only allow us to Email to contact them. So hope it is not a fake company. :(

Domain created Jan 2012 and owner details on privacy listing doesn't bode well!

That was my concern :( especially since the listing just bounce you back between each other :shake:

I just hope that payments have been made by credit card as this is one of those times when credit cards can really benefit you

Hi
I have been looking at this company and their address is a holding address that is rented from a mailbox company.
There is also another website that is identical (different colour template) and does not have any contact details.
http://www.pro-vision.co.uk/
This does look very dodgy with some very unbelievable prices.
E.G. Canon eos 5d mk iii with 24-105L lens at £2995.
That is £700 cheaper than anywhere else on the very latest offering from Canon.
They could be grey imports or it could be a get rich quick scam.
I am interested to see what happens.

As a precaution, may I suggest that you keep a constant check on your credit card transactions. There is always the possibility that the card numbers are being collected as well.

There is the possibility that all is ok as well. It's just best to be alert...

Thank you all for your comments.
I paid by debit card and noticed the card processor they are using is SagePay.

SagePay are fine, it's a part of the large Sage organisation behind the vastly popular accounting software range

I hope that you get what you've paid for though

Sagepay is good but you don't get card protection on a debit card!
Using a credit card is the only way to get protection for a bad transaction.

I know someone who ordered a 1D MKIV from them a couple of months back. It arrived after a lot of chasing, but it appeared to be used stock with a few thousand shutter actuations.

Personally I'd steer well clear, and try to recover your money.

Yeah, they tough me that the item will be with me on Friday, so I just wait, and see then... Because I chasing a lot... So how about you johnm?

Mine's supposed to be coming on Thursday. I'll let you know.

Stop the transaction asap if you can.

They are not a reputable company, as has been discused here before.

hi, i've googled middleton banks and got to this website! I've had concerns since putting in an order for a canon 5D mark iii for £2600 normal price £3000 did seem too good to be true ... i have paid by credit card and raised a dispute after some odd emails to me . probe are

- no phone no. - just an automated voice, no message
- always reply to emails the next day (deliberately slow)
- said delivery would be a specific day but didn't give a date (odd)
- didn't arrive that day or next day despite emails,
- said courier didn't have the right address - but the correct address was given - and also said the courier hadn't delivered "as explained" despite no previous explanation
- didn't respond to a request to cancel

it's a worrying time if you've paid by debit card, sorry i've not got any good news here but wanted to share the above to help people avoid the hassle or worse!

ah, and finally, tracking number - i wasn't given one - that's really odd for an expensive bit of kit, i asked for it in email twice still not got one

Well it has arrived. Opened the box and everything seems fine.
I've just applied online for the Canon cashback giving the serial number etc.. So I guess I'll soon find out if it's ok in that regard.
I can't help thinking that it would have been so much easier if Middleton Banks had been a bit more proactive and supplied a delivery date at the outset, rather than having to be chased.
I need to check now that it has a UK warranty but I'm not sure how to check ??

Have you got a VAT receipt? If not it's unlikely that you've got a UK waranty.

I think you're right, Kipax.

Hi everyone, I was seeking to make a purchase from these middleton banks people and in doing online research came across this post, just wondered if everyone has received the kit now?

I think you're right, Kipax.

they advertise what i want as in stock.. i just emailed to ask when they could deliver as needed for weekend.. almost instant reply said they couldnt deliver until next week.. if in stock and i have money then why not send out today?

so advertising stock they havent got..

i could start a simmilar company today... get a list of stock advertised in hong kong... list that same stock with a mark up and advertise as in stock and posted from UK...... total cost of business setup is just about nothing... someone comes along and orders item ..i then order from hong kong and pass it on to you at a profit..your paying me before i pay hong kong so no risk or money outlay by me..

i would have bought from middleton had they had the item in stock and promised a delivery before weekend..

The tel code is not correct for Wakefield.... Should be 01924 and not the number they have displayed.

Hello, am also interested if others have received their gear. Am wondering, specifically, how advertised Canon XF305 camera can be £1500 - £2000 cheaper than anywhere else. One vetting solution might be to request serial numbers of purchase items, in advance, and ring the manufacturers tech support lines to verify. Canon have offered to do this in this case - if Middleton Banks do not supply serial numbers, it would cast a doubt on the legitimacy of the origin of the product.

By the way, here is the indicated location, courtesy Google Maps:
