Hi all

I was wondering if you could help me choose a nice point and shoot digital camera for my sister. I currently have no idea about these types of cameras (I just look into DSLRs). It should be easy to use (not sure how a point and shoot can be hard to use but I may be surprised) and reliable. I will set the price 'bar' at £200-£300 to make sure it is pretty top notch. I know this is pretty much DSLR territory however she said she finds them far far too confusing and I think she has a point.

Any light on this subject would be much appreciated. :)

The Canon IXUS range are good. The 70 and 75 are very good, 7.1mp each, great quality and very easy to use.

I have a 65 and 70, they are really good. Not too epensive aswel, you can get a 75 for under £200.

Top of the range P&S would be something like the Canon G9 (it's about £300), great compact, has loads of SLR features in it.

I have the Canon Ixus 75 and its brilliant!!! I saw them in Tesco's the other day for about £140....the photo quality is superb and its easy to use.

I've been looking for a small compact camera that has reasonable control (i.e Av & Tv) and either optical or sensor shift stabilisation.

I've found only 2 that come close to meeting all my requirements

Fuji F50fd - 12MP- £167 from Amazon
Nikon P5000 - 10MP - £234 from Amazon (and can have Nikon external flash attached)

However, if you aren't as picky as me there are some really nice cameras out there the Ixus series with image stabilisation would probably be my choice
