I have downloaded this from Microsoft as it said I would be able to view CR2 thumbnails in windows explorer. After downloading it, all I can see is the CR2 logo that I always got before.

Have I done something wrong, or is there something else I need to do to be able to view the thumbnails of my RAW pictures?

Thanks

Andy

Just Download and run it
Did you download the correct version?
MicrosoftCodecPack_amd64.msi for 64 bit and MicrosoftCodecPack_x86.msi for 32 bit

Hi Kev,

I've downloaded it again, just to be sure. Now I can see some of the photos but others still show as an icon.

You might need to give it time to load the thumbnails, they're quite big files.

TBF, i downloaded it last week and it didn't work for me, however having seen this thread, i just did it again and it now works fine

Hi Andy

I've copied this from the 'Photoshop Elements' thread, I had problems with my FIL's PC

...
When you say it doesn't work, exactly what doesn't work - can you not load the file up, or just does it not work for you're body ?

I uploaded this for my FIL and couldn't get the file to work, went through the process with Windows update and repair section - had to repair and re-install various other files that were damaged ??? and then it ran the file no problem. Although the XP file didn't support his Camera directly (the Vista file did) it would open his RAW files now....

It was the XP version I tried and I have just tried it again. When I open a photo folder and select thumbnails, I just get the CR2 icon, and when I double click on one Windows Picture and Fax viewer tries to open the file but errors out.

Hi Roger

Might be worth trying the Fix It Centre - bottom right of this link

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8802#additional-information

This is the process I went through and fixed FIL PC. There is also the whitepaper, which lists all the Cameras supported - it maybe yours is newer and not supported by the XP file ?

Hope this helps...

It might be worth trying this route, I did with my FIL pc and there were a few files that needed updates and a few that needed a repair - it worked fine afterwards

Thanks for your help, everyone.

I've tried it again and it all works this time!
