Hi Everyone,

I have been buying a few MF lenses (mainly M42) and I love them
I got a Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 for £8, and a Helios 135mm f/2.8 for £16

then got a M42 adapter with AF Confirm (which works quite well tbh)

But now I have the MF bug lol, and want to know what other lenses can be adapted to the Canon EOS mount?

Also some sites for some info/where I could also purchase bits from too (already using ebay)

Thanks in advance :)

Check out adaptal2 Tamron SP lenses. There's a site dedicated to them. Some gems there.

Thanks Dean.
Never heard of adaptall, just googled it, sweet :D looking for a wide angle lens, but as my lens is a crop, most as 24/28mm
How wide do the pics come out when Canon mounted?

I have a Vivitar 300mm f 5.6 that I love and a Carl Zeiss Jena 28mm thats very nice as well

Thanks Nigel, I am on the look out for a wide angle, how does the 28mm do?

Thanks again boys :)

Agree!!! CARL ZEISS lenses are superb as are Takumar lenses.

If you have some spare cash loot at the Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.4 Flektogon, I have just got one and it's a real peach of a lens.

I also have the Pentagon 50mm f/1.8 same as you and it is a superbly sharp lens. I have also got (Yesterday) a Pentacon 29mm f/2.8 which is also very nice. If you want to go wider then Vivitar, Takumar, zeiss, Olympus, Canon FD and some others do some good lenses.

Check out http://forum.mflenses.com

I have also just got a Leica-M to Micro 4/3 and a Leica M39 to Micro 4/3 adapters for my Pen's. Should be taking delivery of a Jupiter 8 50mm f2.8 lens this week which will fit the M39 adapter. After getting a 24-105 f/4L lens for the 500D I'm going to save up for a Carl Zeiss 25mm f2.8 ZM Biogon lens which is about £800 new eeek!

Wow, thanks Nigel, they are very nice shots, I am very impressed!
I am assuming they were taken on your 400D? I am very impressed *checks ebay* lol

I went for a little photoshoot on both my lenses today, with a friend who came down, on his Nissan 200sx, I was very impressed with how they have turned out :D

Thanks for posting up pics mate :D

Any more lenses that can be adapted to Canon EOS fitment please?

Hi Andy,

Yes I am very impressed by my Pentacon, much sharper than my Canon 50mm 1.8 IMHO, so much better built too.

Yeah I have been looking at the Carl Zeiss', so god damn expensive though (DOH, I have just graduated, and just got a graduate job lol, so funds are a bit tight lol)

M39? is that another type of fitment? sorry for noobish questions, as I am new to the adapters lol

Also FD do not adapt with infinity focus right? (unless an adapter with a lens built in?)

thanks again :)

M39 is a 39mm screw fitting for Leica lenses and the other most common for Leica is Leica-M but Leica lenses are stuuuupid prices! Voigtlander do nice lenses that are cheaper than the new Zeiss lenses but not quite as good but still better than most.

You can get most lenses to fit onto canon these days. What i do is find a decent lens at a good price and go to ebay to see if there's an adapter to fit. Don't worry if it comes from Hong Kong or China etc, if the feedback is good from these companies then it should arrive safely. I have bought a fair few adapters from Asia and they have all turned up in about a week with no duty to pay.

Look out in charity shops and table top sales plus ask people if their parents, grandparents have old photographic equipment in the loft, you never know!!

As far as i know Canon FD are fine with infinity but not 100% sure. That sort of thing never bothers me.

WARNING!!! MF lenses are addictive..you have been warned!:D

Check out adaptal2 Tamron SP lenses. There's a site dedicated to them. Some gems there.

What's so good about Tamron SP? Not heard of these before? I have a Tamron 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 CF Macro with adaptall fitting to Olympus OM and another which i have no idea what fitting it is. The lens is pretty good but not stellar!

CaptainPenguin: Have you got a Adaptall 2 to EOS adapter then?

I took this with it on a 450D

Oh ok, I understand, I knew it was a 39mm screw, but not what the associated lens was from, I have seen some cheaper Leica-R lenses, but again not sure on fitment to EOS.

Yeah I ordered my adapter from HK, with AF confirm, came in 6 working days, which wasn't too bad :D

Yeah I am off to some charity shops tomorrow for a look lol.

I have read unless it has a lens built into the adapter, it will not focus to infinity, but wasn't 100% sure.

I know Andy, already got 2, looking atleast another 2 lol :D

Thanks for the help again Andy (I also saw your pics on MF forum, great shots)

The SP lenses are Tamron's professional range. There are some awesome zooms in amongst them every bit as good as the famed 90mm f2.5 macro. You've got one of the so-so lenses. You needed the SP 2.8-3.5 version.

Cracking!! I'll keep my eye's open! Oh and i have found a Adaptall to EF adapter also!!

Actually taken on the 350D and can I stress these lenses are Carl Zeiss Jena the East German version and that 28mm cost me about £20

The following mount lenses will adapt to Canon EOS with infinity focusing:

* M42 screw mount
* Contax / Yashica bayonet
* Olympus OM
* Nikon F/ai/ais
* Leica
* Tamron Adaptall / Adaptall 2 / SP (mounts will work on all three)
* Pentax K (crop cameras only, will generally foul the mirror on a 5D)

These will work but without inifnity focusing:

* Exakta / Topcon RE (NOT UV)
* Prakticar PB mount

Have I missed any?

No I keep looking around for one as I picked up a mountless Tamron 35-70 at a jumble sale a few months ago,I understand though that they are not ultra cheap
