Has anyone had a 58 AF-1 bulb blow before? Mine blew on Friday night - made a few people (including me) jump. Has anyone ever had one replaced - or is it consigned to the bin?

I'll no doubt check with the UK Metz service centre - but thought I'd run it past you guys and gals here as well....

If you mean flash tube, they are normally quite reliable. Must be bad circuit design. I bought a Metz a few weeks ago, only fired about 10 flashes and it then refused to charge up.

Yes flash tube - went with an almighty bang - I guess the unit is around 2-3 years old, it was one of the first when they launched, and has probably flashed in the region of 15,000 -20,000 times....

More likely just a manufacturing defect in the tube as they usually last forever.

The principle of flash circuit design is quite simple and it's a bit unfair to accuse Metz, one of the leading flash manufacturers, of bad design.

Steve.

Nothing is forever. Had the Welsh lad stated the length of service it would have got a different reply.

mine is still singing and dancing.....:D

How many flashes do you think you've had out of it?
