I have never had smelly feet up until last year, when I bought two pairs of shoes - Skechers black shoes for work and Puma training shoes for driving. They both have a couple of things in common - they have memory foam insoles and the make my feet stink. I tried everything with these shoes - cotton sock, deodorising socks, spraying with Febreeze, Odour Eaters, using talcum powder, all to no avail. II bought the Skechers last January, and the Pumas in Austria last September. Last year I removed the insoles from the Skechers virtually destroying them (they have that grid sole underneath), and all attempts to remove the Puma insoles resulted in failure, until today when I put them with some work clothes on a hot wash in the machine. I got home to find a very clean pair of Pumas with the insoles coming out - result! The Pumas smelled really nice, but alas the memory foam insoles still stank - unbelievable!
Fortunately I keep old insoles from trainers, and fitted a pair of Adidas ones which looked and smelled fine, so I will have to see how I got on.
I also Googled - "memory foam insoles smell", and this was the first thing to appear

I’ve got a pair of Skechers with memory foam liners and they’re fine... they are mesh top trainers though, so maybe they get enough air going through them.

On the other hand I’ve got a pair of suede furry lined slippers and they’ve started to smell rank lately. :hungover:

I find memory foam pillows get really hot, perhaps a similar thing is happening with the shoes?

Try gel soles instead. They also keep their bounce instead of getting compressed after a while.

I thought that memory foam pillows would help me to sleep better, as well as provide the firmness that I need to keep the CPAP mask in place on my face, but they were far too hot - used to wake up with head sweats during the night, and they did pong after a short while.

The memory foam insoles seem to be badly designed with no arch or heel support, and they do indeed collapse. I still have the memory foam insoles which were washed (they came away from the shoe) with the Puma shoes, and they still stink, whereas the shoes are a lot better and seem far more comfortable. I am going to take the insoles (Adidas arch support) out and wash the pair of them again this week to see how that works, but early signs are good.

Memory foam is like a sponge that never gives back :D We bought a pricey memory foam mattress a few years back, I have a duffed back and need a good one - anyway, after one very humid summer we had to chuck it. You can clean a mattress, but you can't exactly chuck it in the wash. I found the same with memory foam pillows. They were fine for the first few weeks, then after a while they wouldn't feel near as comfy, and if you had a few sweaty nights they started to reek too. Binned! I remember the first time I saw memory foam footwear and thought 'Hell no!"
