Just purchased my very FIRST mobile phone. Sad aren't I ... don't answer that. Sent off for a SIM card and wanted to know a bit about the memory cards that are available. Bought the phone for emergencies only, Billy No Mates and texting the kids. The camera on the phone was one of the main considerations. Any offers of advice re snapping with a mobile, how to get the best out of it? I do use Lightroom Classic.

Leave it in fully automatic and just use it for snaps. OR spend loads of time experimenting to get the best out of it before going back to option 1!

Just wondered what the memory card was for. Why would you need it? Storage for images and videos? Can you transfer these to your computer?

When you get your memory card ( needs micro SD) open up the camera , go into settings ( little gear wheel on Top RHS of screen) and turn on
priority save on memory card-otherwise you fill up the internal memory.
I leave mine in automatic for taking snaps, if I want to take photographs I use a camera

Storing more stuff on than the handset has space for (downloaded movies, podcasts, camera output,...)

Usually the cards are so deeply buried in the fabric of the phone it's easier to plug the phone into the PC and extract them that way (or upload them to (for example) Google photos on the phone and download on your PC)

Thanks everyone, it gives me a starting point. Something else to pass the time on while in lockdown. Keeping this OAP's brain active.

Get a decent quality (Sandisk Extreme or Samsung) micro SDXC card. The P30 Lite has a decent amount of internal memory (either 128GB or 256GB) so there's no need to go wild with the extra card's size. 64GB should do unless you plan to transfer a load of video files to it to watch while you're out and about. Um, perhaps not.....
I've been using a P10 for the last couple of years and bought a P30 Lite more as a small tablet for a couple of airgun apps but the lockdown has nailed that for the moment. I may swap them round and demote the P10 to tablet duty. Note that setting up a finger print is fiddly.

You won’t need a memory card surely? Doesn’t that model come with 128gb of memory?

With NO knowledge of smartphones, I have to ask for help. SIMPLES! Thanks to everyone, even when you are stating the obvious. I need every bit of support I can get.
