do cheap memory cards work aswell as dearer ones. i.e i bought a 4gb sd card with free card reader from hong kong for £6, i do not know what make of card it is, i am slightly worried about it doing any damage to my camera, i have used it and it seems fine apart from a couple of pics having a darker top or bottom :thumbsdown:
 
a memory card is a memory card. The only things it could have wrong with it are duff storage bits... in which case its trash, or more likely very slow write speeds.
Slightly duff cards can be used at lower speeds and work OK, disreputable companies will sometimes sell these.

It might fail sooner rather than later too.

In short if it works, you can use it, but it might be slow or unreliable (you might lose the lot).
Its very unlikely to do anything to the camera.
