Memory card will not download..?

Its a new card a scan disc extreme 3, 1 gig size and it will not download ...tried it in the card slot as well ... :thinking:

All my other cards work from the camera and the puters card slot.. :thinking:

errr. ...its full of the London meet shots ... :help: :help: :'(

Seems fine in the d70s... all piccies still their (160 raw) and still works fine etc....I can view all shots on the cameras screen...and shoot new ones on the few frames that are spare.

My puter recognises the USB and camera being switched on (PC mode) small gong sound on the pc etc ...then nothing. ...and more nothing... ?

What to do? ...send card away somewhere to be rescued?... use recovery software? which/what? ...

How about hooking your camera up via cable, just to get the shots off it, then you can tinker and test to you hearts content :)
 
If I remembrer coreectcly the camera needs to be in mass storage mode, not ptp. It should work on both modes but sometimes doesn't.

Have you tried another USB lead? Although if you're getting the 'dong' sound (snigger, sounds rubbery) you should be ok.
 
I am using the USB cable guys, I use that more than the slot....

The camera is behaving normally ... tested on a few other cards, its fine.

The D70, switches to _PC mode automatically after plugging the USB and then switching on...

Which it still does

...only this card will not open a file window on the PC ..All my other cards will.

So the fault is with the card nothing else …I reckon. :shrug: :cuckoo:
 
Have you got access to another puter you can try? [you are alwaus welcome to whizz round nth circ and try on this machine if not mate]

If memory serves, CF cards dont have a locking mechanism, so that shouldnt be a problem, but have you checked the individual pics aren't locked? Unlikely and a longshot, and shouldnt technically make a difference as that only stops them being deleted, but worth checking just in case.

My 'feeling' is that the new card wasn't formatted properly when it left the factory so now the computer is struggling to read it, but there has to be a way of forcing it.

OH!! Try using photoproject to download, see if that can pick up the pics on the card.... terminally slow I know, but maybe that might work where windows is failing?

Some good ideas their Yv, I've used the card a few times before so its not the formatting thing...I format all my cards in camera after downloading.

The thing is ...if I use another card to test, the PC will open a window and a new drive will appear in the 'MyComputer' window after the dong, it will say NIKON** drive (i)...all fine and good.

If I use the dodgy card it will not open a widow to view bit the drive will still appear (MyComputer) after the dong ;) as ...drive (i) ... with the Nikon** bit missing...if I try and open it/ explore it ..small warning window pops up and says do I want to formatt..yes/no... NOOOO, NO NO. I say. LOL.

I've even tried searching for NEF's on the drive ...nope none ... but my camera says their all their...I can view all via the viewing screen.

OK... give me an hour to try and get hold of someone. WE had, and I have lost so need to get hold of it again, a piece of software that rescues data from discs that are corrupt where windows cannot read the disc but you know there is data there, including the usb pen drives, so I am going to find out if it can do memory cards too....wil let you know! ;)

there are some good free programs about to GET shots off cards. I'd google for you but I have to be in tetbury in an hour so am just leaving now! I know sandisk sometimes give one away free with there cards.

Adam, I have a Photo rescue disc I got with last memory card. I cant get hold of my mate [the fact he is off to europe for 6 weeks tomorrow may have something to do with it] but I saw gandhis post and remember getting this disc. Just goint to install it here and make sure its virus free, etc, then can send it over to you if you want.
 
I've a couple of little CD thingys that have data recovery S/W on them.
Came with my ExtremeIII cards.

Forbiddenbiker you should have the sandisk recovery software with your card when you bought the card, give that a try.

Is that post before or after you pm me mate ...I don't have it, but you have reminded me a friend may have it ( Bit slow me ) ...as its he who supplies discs ... :naughty: ... so I rang him ..and I'm right. ;)

... In case anyone’s wandering I fell over on the Thames beach ...ok mud banks... I didn’t break a thing, just cracked a credit card, just found that out …. worse thing was no one captured the shot of the day either ...I soooo thankful. :D

..and I didn't shoot the cat either, he gets a damn good beating with a stick at the weekends though. :gag:

...yeah, :lol: I was looking at LL's nice Canary Wharf shot today, thinking, that’s what they where doing whilst we ran up and down the stairs trying to grab shots and get back to then before they'd noticed we gone. Ha-ha ... As you said though, the panting and red faces gave it away. :D ...that and the misgeavious grin we couldn't hide. :lol:

I must get round to looking at my results sometime too..:whistling:
