Just got my R5 this week. I did not realise that my CF card from my 5D/4 would not fit, so got to get a "Type B" memory card now. What Type B CF memory card reader are people using.

Thanks.

I've no idea Peter but as there haven't been any replies yet I thought I'd give you a bump. Here's hoping someone who can help will be along shortly :D

I have a Lexar which supports both SD and CF cards. Compatible with USB 3.1 and in my experience very quick. Never missed a beat

Ah! but is yours compatible with CFexpress cards

Hopefully you will get more replies to this thread, I am just about to buy my first CFexpress card, having been looking at Anglebird cards and these require an Anglebird reader for firmware updates. CFexpress looks more complex than the previous generation of cards. I have been looking for a combined CFexpress/XQD reader and these seem thin on the ground...?

Ahh on reflection that is a good question. I have never bought a CF EXpress card. Most of mine are UDMA. I might have got this wrong. Time for me to do more research on CF EXpress cards.

My bad. I owe you guys an apology. I did not realise the CF express and UDMA are different. All these incarnations confuse me.
On research The Lexar readers although very good are not suitable for CF Express.

I had a similar dilemma when planning ahead for the Fuji XH2S.
I already had a Nikon Z7 with a XQD Sony 128GB Type B card and a Sony XQD reader.
I purchased a ProGrade Digital Gold 128GB CF Express Type B card for the XH2S, so I tested it in the Z7. It worked flawlessly in the Z7 camera but the card images did not download via the Sony card reader which is USB3 attached to my MacPro. I have another cheap XQD reader which also refused to see the ProGrade Gold CF Express card.
Looks like I need to find a suitable CF Express Type B card reader or I will need to use the USB cable to download images from the camera.

I forgot to say that the XQD and CF Express Type B cards have the same physical layout but obviously there is more to it than that simple detail.

You may need to update your firmware on the Z7 to Firmware v. 2.20, i think it will then support cfexpress.

Yes I am at v2.2 on my Z7.
My Z7 sees both the XQD and CF Express Type B cards without issue and read/writes to either, but the two readers Sony and a cheapie make, both refuse to show the CF Express card but are happy with the XQD card.

Just checked my Z7 is running v3.40 which is the latest so it is not some firmware version difference miswriting issue.
Now going to have to find a suitable CF Express reader for these ProGrade Digital Gold cards.
