Meike Battery grip for D800 not working!

Recently my Meike battery grip for my D800 has just stopped working altogether ( Had it 4weeks ish) It doesn't connect with the camera showing there is a battery in there at all, tried all my different EN-EL15 Battery I have and a set of AA's and still not working. Anyone got any ideas how I maybe able to fix this issue or is dead? I recently updated the D800 to the latest firmware also, could this be a cause?
 
My D800 has the latest firmware Joe but the Meike grip is still recognised, maybe yours has developed a fault ... any chance of returning it?
 
Hey Joe, Did you get anywhere with this? I've got the same problem with the Meike grip on my D7000.

My Pixel Vertax survived the firmware update perfectly fine. Unlike the Meike it actually does look exactly like the Nikon one too. You may want to consider the Pixel one.

Some users seem to report the Mieke no longer working after flashing the camera, some don't. Never heard of an issue with the Pixel one though.

Pretty much no where James! Meike were impossible to contact to say the least and for the £20 it cost me I left it on the shelf and that was it, I ended up getting the Nikon one as one came across used at a good price, How long have you had your Meike Battery grip out of interest?
 
Fair enough, yeah I had a good search for contact details for them but got nowhere.
I got sold a dud - found it on gumtree for £30 (without the AA tray) and thought I'd give it a go. It's very intermittent, sometimes it will show both batteries fine and then cut out. Vertical release seems to work every time, but not sure what's going on with the battery. I complained to the seller but he just said "It worked fine for me!!"
I read a forum post that talked about some loose "mechanical" type connections, which I assume are there to disconnect the battery from the terminals when not locked to the camera, under the main connector block causing the problem. I took mine apart and soldered the joints together and refitted - hey presto!.....or so I thought. Until I was shooting a wedding 3 days later and the connection disappeared on me. I tried the grip semi-loose on the camera, and wrenched up as tight as possible, but both seemed as bad as each other.
I've had it apart again and seems like my solder joints are still good. cant see any other issues, so back to the drawing board again. :(
 
I had a Meike grip for my D7000 and to be fair it worked great I never had any problems with it what so ever , so I got a third party grip for my new D810 (I should point out it was not a Meike ) , it worked for two weeks then started playing up , it started firing the camera off at random and sometimes it would not work at all, a friend told me he had a third party grip for his canon a few years back that went tits up and damaged his camera , the camera ended up with no auto focus so I sent the grip back and got myself a real Nikon one and must say its so much more better made, its solid because its all metal unlike the other one, it locks on to the body 100% so there's no movement , yes it cost a lot more but I got to say it's well worth it if you use it all the time. By the way I don't work for Nikon and must say if I can save a few quid then I will but in this case I think I did the right thing , from now on I will always go with the real thing because it really is that good.
 
I had a meike grip on my 7k1 and the battery symbol kept flashing due to it losing contact with the body. This is due to the cheap grip flexing. In the end I got a pixel grip with a metal base plate this sorted the issue.
 
View attachment 23783 The meikie ones for my D7000s fell apart, the ones on my D7100 would only do camera battery first so I pulled all the electronics out and just use them to carry spare battery in one and spare AAs in the other .
The one on my D800 works but I have a tracker inside it instead of a battery in case my gear gets stolen...
