I've had my Toyo 4x5 monorail camera for quite a while now and still haven't plucked up the courage to use it. So before winter takes a hold does anyone fancy a large format meet up?

I'm based in west London but I was thinking of maybe the Chilterns or South Downs for some large landscape loveliness.

I know I could just drag myself out with all this kit but I feel I could end up with some bizarre perspective madness without a little guidance. It would be really interesting to see other people's large format set-ups, I'm quite keen on using the larger format but I'm not convinced the Toyo is the right kit for the type of pictures I want to take.

Also it's an excuse to get out in the fresh air while the weather's still ok.

On Alastair's suggestion I've also added a medium format invite to widen the appeal:D

Might be worth posting on the UK large format forum, there aren't many of us shooting LF here.
Before you do go out, it's worth shooting a few sheets just to check everything works.

I ran some very out of date transparency film bought off that auction site through mine, before going out in the real world.

If you make it a Medium and Large Format meet-up you'll considerably expand the potential attendees list from TP.

I'd be up for a meet, I'll bring my little MF folder along and then tell you all that you're compensating with the bigger cameras. ;)

When are you thinking Nick?

It all depends whether folk are available weekdays or weekends. Hopefully some time fairly soon before we loose all the daylight.

I'm keen for some MF/LF meetup goodness :) Would prefer a weekend and somewhere south-ish as I'll have to rely on pub...terrible transport. Certainly keen though!

South-ish is fine for me but it'd have to be weekend for me due to driving time. There's obviously a rugby world cup final to avoid, but other than that I'm pretty available

Oooo would my mediums be welcome?

One film one digi. They would love to hang out with the big boys.

OK, I'll look at some dates and post them up and see what the response is.

I can't see a problem with that, you might have to hide the digi from the more evangelical film users

But bear in mind the Toyo and its attendant tripod and lenses, darkslides etc weigh a huge amount so I certainly wont be traipsing across the South Downs in search of that perfect shot. I'm thinking more of a decent landscape view that's a few steps from a place to park the car. Where I can run a few test sheets through the 4x5 and get the hang of it.

I'll bring my polaroid 550 back along as well Nick, that way you can get some instant feedback
