Hey :)

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro. Now I know the chargers get warm but I'm actually scared to leave mine unattended if it's charging. It has made a mark on the new sofa  and the dark leather texture from the sofa is now imprinted on the "brick" of the charger.

On almost every cycle now, it gets so hot that it'll stop charging - I can't touch it for more than a couple of seconds, it's roasting! I'll leave it to cool completely and then I have to plug it into a different socket for it to work again.

Surely this isn't normal. Does it happen to anyone else?

Good old Apple form over function. Mine gets pretty hot but that hot. If it's getting so hot that it stops charging then it is definitely faulty, get it replaced.

Never had an apple power supply get that hot (and weve had many), sure they get warm all chargers will do, but obviously the more load the more power draw through the supply the hotter it will get.

The cause of that draw is either performance related, I.e high CPU usage draws more power, the battery and/or charging circuit are faulty, or the charger is faulty..

I know dell chargers get quite toasty when the batteries start failing.

in short, get an appointment at an apple store for them to check it out.

Oh dear...I hope it's not that serious. I don't have an Apple store nearby, only a reseller (Stormfront) so I don't think they'd be able to check it out.

But thanks guys, knew it couldn't be right!
