Why would anyone think that bailing would be the way to go???

I cannot beleive that
They risked being crushed/seriouly injured getting out of the car than staying in it belted up and safer.
Bloody idiots

Spike

I started to say "I can't believe how stupid some people can be" but having thought a bit more about it, it is quite clear that yes people can be that stupid.

What the hell. What process goes through your brain that says "yes, getting out of a spinning car onto a slippy surface, thats the plan".

for pitys sake it wasnt even going that fast , if the loon had taken his foot off the brake there was a chance of some steering , they would make good candidates for darwin awards :cuckoo: :bang:

We need to invent a new word for what we have just seen.

No, wait. We have 'moronic'.

Amazing, a couple with IQ at atmospheric temperature!

More amazing, what little damage came out of all that, no limbs or appendages lost

Quote from the chap who recorded it...

The car hit the hedge on the right, the front of a new Merc behind the hedge then hit the wall. The guy who jumped out was crushed against the silver car on the left by his own car. Cracked rib(s), injured neck, arm etc. Ripped his jacket arm to shreds.

He's ok though apparently...

I cannot believe they did that!:eek:

He didn't even try to control it did he...

Rather humourously, the person who videoed it happening (after going and seeing the people after they crashed, making sure they were ok and showing them the video) has now had a letter through their door telling them to get the video off YouTube 'as they didn't have permission to put it up there' otherwise they'll be hearing from their Solicitor.

I don't know which was more stupid, the couple jumping out of the car or the person waiting at the window for the next VICTIM to drive on to the ice and fiilm the poor people crash.

Its called ....panic, not a nice situation to be in and looking at it my first reaction is the same as everyone else but lets face it panic does take over

not sure about panic , more like inexperience , all he had to do was get off the brakes and turn right , the car was barely moving , and if it was going to hit something at that point it would have been no more than a tap , still say candidates for a darwin award :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

i'm sorry but why was the person videoing?

You are good at saying this but .........its an inexperienced driver that panicked like most young drivers would so get off your Darwin awards pedestal and give some encouragement not stick....its you who needs a Darwin award

They don't need permission. Model releases aren't required in the UK.

wonder if the police were interested in the video of that? surely what they did was unfathomably dangerous to jump from a moving car and allow it to continue uncontroled down a street. inexperienced or otherwise that is a very dangerous thing to do. definetely in contention for a darwin award.

however, the **** shouldnt have been videoing it, he should have been down their stopping the traffic rather than fiilming it. (maybe he should have set the camera on a tripod and then video'd the motoring public ignoring his warnings and carrying on regardless....)

:agree:

Exactly, my immediate thoughts, what an ignorant prat he must be.

ok , fair enough , inexperience stopped him getting off the brakes and turning right , still highly unusual behaviour to bail out of a moving car , and for that i stil say darwin award :cuckoo:

Panic does make us do strange things.....many of us act strangely when suddenly hit by a seemingly emergency situation.

Doesn't stop them being plums for doing it though, but does explain it ;)

Don't see a problem with the guy filming it, he could have just been videoing the two people walking and slipping ;)

The video just shows the lack of experience drivers have these days. I've never been on a skid pan, but experience has taught me how to deal with ice rink situations.

I still think every new driver should have at least an hour or so on a skid pan or some slippery surface just learning how to get the feel of a car out of control and what to do.

I thought all bus drivers went on a skid pan.........

All my illusions from "on the buses" have been shattered :'(

They used to, until deregulation in 86 meant that profit making companies took over....and sold the skid pans /land ;)

The chap that recorded it is on another forum I'm on. He says they were out there warning people. At the start of the video it pans to the left and briefly shows a recovery truck that had apparently been there a good couple of hours - stuck. The people who bailed apparently live in the same estate and had been warned not to go out, but they chose to ignore that advice...

If the insurance company see that video I can see them washing their hands of any claim, I can't see diving out of a moving car and leaving it to slide down the street uncontrolled being covered.

They're really lucky they're not seriously injured

This is proper ice:eek:

Well...taking all viewpoints into account and reading the accounts elsewhere - I still say "Morons"...
Getting out of a moving car is thoroughly stupid no matter how inexperienced a driver you are...

So yes, on reflection...Darwin-Award...lol
'Cept unfortunately they're still breathing and able to procreate, thus ensuring our gene-pool is continuously polluted with cretins of this magnitude...

Inexperienced young drivers ..... and as for the people videoing ... who needs neighbours like that !!!

Yeah, or photographing people on the street...wayne-kerrs...

Maybe they were videotaping that stretch of road to make a claim against the Council for not having gritted the road properly - ever think of that...?

I bet they guy whose parked car they hit was glad they taped the event as well...
