Some of you may have seen the fire in New Holland on TV about the fire in which a lot of families have lost everything and are now being put up by the local authorities.

At work we are rallying round to give Roy some bits n bats whilst he is staying in the church, but in the end he will move into a flat or something and he will move there with noting more than the clothes he has on, yes the rally round will give him a few hundred quid to spend but how far will that go.

He is a very nice bloke and speaks to everyone everyday (he even anoys us .......he is that nice) yes he is that really nice but annoying bloke we all meet, time for everyone type...............well he has just lost everything he has ever worked for or dreamed of in a fire and he wasnt insured because as a cleaner he couldnt afford it.

If anyone has something he may need in his new home when he gets one could you please let me know, I know this isnt supposed to be a charity forum but the old bloke does deserve my help a bit.

I'll have a root around my place this week Pete and sort out some household items that we don't need.
Let me know his clothing size too.
You'll have to collect them as I don't drive and my fella's incapacitated at the moment.
I'll pm you my address when I've sorted the stuff.

Pete,

That's really bad news for Roy, and I hope you can get him what he needs. Unfortunately we're still setting up our home ourselves so don't have anything to offer directly. However can I recommend setting up a user logon on here and registering for the various forums in your local area. You'd be amazed at what comes up. Just last week in our area someone was offering all white goods as they were having a new kitchen fitted.

Think of this as Ebay without money. Everything is free.

Hope this helps him get back on his feet. Thankfully he wasn't harmed in the fire

I have a glass coffee table with storage box under, still unused in the box, it has chrome frame IIRC

it would need to be collected due to weight though

Also have a small table (Beech) and a random picture/frame aswell

all free to be collected

If anyones got a van to collect from Manc, I've got some old leather couches and chairs that are being replaced a week on Saturday - there'll probably be a bit of other stuff too (computer table etc) as we're clearing out the spare room/soon to be nursery.

I've also got a spare Sky+ box, but I guess that won't be top of his list!!

I would like to thank Andrew,Susane, Steve and Candlestick for there generous offers but I found out today at work that Roy was actually insured and we are also having a mega whip round with the company chipping in a considerable amount, so even though Roy has lost everything it looks like he will be very well looked after by our employer and his 800 or so workmates, but thankyou for the very kind offers and words which I will pass onto Roy once he is back with us.

Regards

Pete

Pete that's even better news

All the best to Roy, here's hoping it all works out well for him. I'm sure he'll be grateful that you were prepared to put yourself out for him. Good on you.

Thanks for letting us know Pete that he'll be sorted.

I will keep you all posted on how things are going and once he is out of hospital (details are sketchey but we do believe its Roy in hospital suffering smoke inhallation) I will let him know what you all have or were willing to do as I am sure he would like to thank you all personally as I am very gratefull to the members of TP on his behalf.

Thanks

Pete

hope that he makes a speedy recovery and is soon settled in a new home

hope that he makes a speedy recovery and is soon settled in a new home

We all do but since the fire no one has been able to contact him but this is probably due to his home and mobile phone being destroyed in the fire along with bank cards and all his available cash so he probably cant recieve any calls or messages, the only contact was from the police to work after Roy asked them to contact them after the fire and we are still pretty much in the dark, and I work in the office and take the calls so no news is good news in this cade but we do have a dedicated phone line to the MD and his managers that may have more news than us and looking at the footage his home was the one with the shop we believe

I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we all wish him a speedy and full recovery.

I'm also sure you'll ensure he's busy once he gets back on his feet and into work too

OMG some people are such scum

http://www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk/news/Looters-raid-burnt-homes/article-1747892-detail/article.html

I cannot believe this is happening to a work colleague

Pete, Scum is not the word I was thinking of after reading this, although the forum won't allow me to type what I want to. I can't believe how low some people will stoop!

Here's hoping Roy is ok and the insurance come up trumps for him.

I would imagine to a man like him the insurance payout is worthless, in comparison to the sentimental value of the items stolen, especially the jewellery.

Cheers Alex as we havent been able to find anything out yet, and like you say he is one of the nicest blokes you could meet even to the point of being too nice lol

right i have been told roy the poor chap is sat in there on a night with only a candle and no food and is not even sleeping to keep the scum away

obviously he isnt doing to well they even went and nicked some one pennie sweet's

very sad

That is disgusting,as if he hasn't been through enough ...they want strung up the little b********ts

OH MY GOD, surely they can shure the houses up untill the assesors have been out, he shouldnt be having to do this for christs sake the poor soul must still be in shock

Just got confirmation that Roys phone (home and mobile) were destroyed so we have donated a new SGH 600 and sim with a ten pound top up towards him being in touch with the world and another .........summat dont know how much it will be into the fund.

I did contact work a couple of times today "even though I am on holiday" to see what phone he is used to using as he is knockin on a bit and didnt want to get something he cant use......he is happy with our choice, yet the people at work say he is in desperate need of everything, the silly old bugga says he is fine.............. I think his pride has taken over and he says he is ok when in reality he isnt, if he does need help I will find out tomorrow when I am back at work and ask for what he needs..........after all he is a 65 year old and wont ask for owt,, so I will, his insurance hasnt even bothered to come out or get back to him so if anyone fancies putting a few coffers in a jar for him could you please contact me and if its a good turnout I will see about getting a mod involved to accept them otherwise i will just pay the money out of our into the works pot and put the donations you send back into my account, if you know what I mean

Pete
