Marumi Ring Flash - Any body experience of?

I think I've got a review of it in an old magazine, there's a group test of ringflashes anyway, give me 10 minutes and I'll have a look.

I know it's only for macro anyway, just incase you were thinking of it for portrait work

I had one and sold it to get the Canon MR-14ex, but that is not to say it is a bad ringflash, it is not. It is ETTL only and as far as I remember no manual modes but the quality of the images it produces are very good in auto anyway.

The build quality is nowhere near the quality of the Canon and it is nothing like as versatile, but then the Canon is about 3x the price (if you buy from inside the UK).

I might well be selling the Canon MR-14EX soon if I decide to buy the Lenscarta professional ringflash unit but I would be wanting a bit more than £100 for it.

I read something recently that said it works well but as it only has a single flash tube, it doesn't have the flexibility of the more expensive variants with 2 or more, but works for even illumination. I'm thinking about getting one myself.

Oldgit, there's a review in the February edition of Digital Photo.

The review states pretty much what Edbray and jgs001 have said, but they do rate it favorably, mainly due to the low price.

i have the bowers version. Think its probably the same.

I got 2 test flashes out of it then it toasted bits of the board inside!!! Bought off ebay used so no real come back. Have it bits here until i get round to having a look at it.

The one i have has 4 miniture flash tubes around the ring.

From the 2 test flashes i seen it looked like it would work well for marco stuff doubt there'd be more than a m or 2 of range though.

I have the Mag too and it gets a good review for performance at the price.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll see if I can find a copy of Digital Photo in WHS this lunchtime
