"Martin Parr is known for his social documentary photographs - everything from the new BBC One idents to his earliest work documenting the rural farming communities of Yorkshire. As the Sony World Photography Awards acknowledge him for his Outstanding Contribution to Photography, he shows us around his exhibition at Somerset House in London and looks back over his work and influences."

A lot of folks claim to dislike Martin Parr. I think he's rather wonderful.
I don't dislike Martin Parr, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. I quite like his early stuff but for me his recent work leaves me cold and his ident series for the Beeb is remarkably dull and uninspiring.

If you mean his black and white stuff, then I'm afraid the decisive moment died with Cartier-Bresson! ;)

The difficulty I have with Parr is that I think he puts too much stuff out, meaning that it's not as well curated as it might be, and he seems to spend less time on his projects than he did when he started out. No doubt because he is in demand.

IMO his Multistory book is really good, while the Rhubarb Triangle book seems thrown together in a hurry. Some good stuff, but repetitive like a lot of his contemporary work. How many backs of bald heads do we need to see? But there's a market for his books, so I don't blame him for milking his fans for all he can if it helps fund his book collection. :D

I am really looking forward to his talk in Worcester on July 1st.
